no longer his wife

Sarah gave a puzzled expression. "What is it?" she asked.

Tom showed her the message on the screen. "It's from my dad," he explained.

The message simply stated "Hey honey, are you still at Tom's? Are we all still meeting at 7 at the restaurant? And tell our son he should finally get off his ass and marry that girl he's been stringing along :) Look forward to seeing them tonight!"

Tom and Sarah lifted their eyes from the screen and just stared at each other.

"Am I your step-mom or something now?!" Sarah screeched. "That's not what I planned!"

Tom shrugged. "The hell if I know. Let's see..."

He flipped through some screens on her phone, checking some pics and texts. "Um, it's worse than that," he said hesitantly. "I...I'm pretty sure you're my actual mom now." He pointed out series of rather old family pics she had scanned to her phone.

Sarah continued to stare at Tom for a few minutes in silence. Slowly her face relaxed and she started to laugh. "This is hilarious!" she said. "And frankly, maybe it will be fun to check things out, see what's going on."

She reached over and gently touched Tom's cheek. "I mean, I don't FEEL very motherly right now, so why don't we test out my older body."
