"I've already been talking to someone, so I'm going to see where this relationship goes," you reply as you open the door.

"Ok, John," she says. "I wish you luck. Just remember two things. I will always love you, and, if you EVER need a friend, don't hesitate to call me no matter what time it is."

As Jessica turns to walk out the door, Amy pulls up. "Here she is now, Jess. I'll introduce you to her if you want."

"Just be smart about it. Don't tell her you're my ex or she'll jump to conclusions," she says.

Amy walks up to your door and sees Jessica. "Amy, I'd like you to meet my friend, Jessica. Jessica, meet Amy," you say nonchalantly.

"A pleasure, I'm sure," she replies as she lightly shakes Jessica's hand. Looking over at you, she asks, "Is our date still on for tonight?"

"Of course! I wouldn't miss it for the world," you say, grinning. Jessica tells you goodbye, and walks out the door, closing it behind her.

After Jessica leaves, Amy tells you, "Be honest. Was that one of your exes?"

You find yourself unable to lie to Amy. "Yes, that was. We just had to sort some things out," you reply.

"Did you do anything with her today?" she asks.

"No, I didn't. We just talked, that's all," you reply.

She searches your face as if she doesn't know whether or not to believe you. Finally she says, "I'm sorry, John. It really isn't any of my business because I'm not your girlfriend. It's just, well, nevermind."

"Nevermind what?" you ask. "Is something wrong?"

"No, nothing's wrong, John," she says. "Don't worry about it."

"I can't not worry about it," you reply. "I need to know what's going on in your mind. I need to know..."

"Because I'm starting to fall for you," she says, tears welling up in her eyes. "And I don't like the thought of you being with someone else. I know I have no right to..."

"It's okay," you interrupt, wrapping your arms around her. "You're the reason I didn't do anything with Jessica. I seriously thought about it, but I couldn't go through with it. I didn't want to ruin what we have going."

"Really, John?" she says, looking up into your eyes.

"Really, Amy," you respond, softly kissing her lips. "I'm starting to fall for you too."
