Chapter 4

what know?
missing some D&D in this isekai, man
All this fucking sun was doing work on my freckled, IT person complexion. Motherfuckers. When i woke up, instead of having died a Hero's **** and being welcomed in Valhalla or whatever, or at least waking up in a forest close enough to civilization to make the proper mechanic exposition to move plot along quickly, you woke up on a beach. Sand up in bothersome places, and not a sign of a proper bathroom in sight. Not even a fucking dragon. I felt royally scammed, to be honest, so i started walking toward a shadow to wallow in misery while avoiding a nasty sunburn.
I was clearly in an island, behind me water as far as i could see, in front of me, foliage with some relief going up. I really hope that's not a volcano, or I'm deducting points for overused tropes. This close to the beach the plants were sparse still, they looked like normal trees, just thinner, not anything like the deserted-island-movie type palms. Shit, that would have been an useful trope, assholes, some tasty coconuts as food.
After sticking a big piece of wood on the ground, with some nearby rocks around to fashion a sort of "i started here" marking, i started walking with the sun to my right along the not-fully-blasted-by-the-sun outer stripe of the forest, while still not fully immersed on the greenery, mostly so i could see in the distance and get a feeling of the island. Why with the sun to my right you ask? completely random decision, just adding detail to help with visualization, you know, narrative tools and shit. Stop asking, god what a bother.
Seeing as it appeared to be still early enough, i chose to explore along for a bit, and after a 10 minute walk, i came across a narrow stream, which i taste-tasted (what other tools do i have to try out? it looked clean enough) to deem that for know it would do for a water source, as it was still somewhat cool. After leaving another marking in case it was an intermittent stream, i continued forward. a few minutes ahead, the foliage started waning and gave way to a small clearance, not even a meadow, about 20 meters in diameter. In the centre lay a sort of pedestal, made of wood with some light Celtic-style carvings. Resting on top, surprisingly, was a clear glass sheet, as big as a 55' TV and skewed like a book display , or a touchscreen at a mall. Foreshadowing is a literary device in which the author....
I swallowed wrong in shock and started coughing. What was i saying? sorry. Standing there observing the scene from afar, i made a deal to the ethereal entity driving me that i would abandon the snarky meta-commentary if only this was a helpful turn to my abandonment. Maybe switch it to pop references or potty humour? we'll see
I approached the whole thing, and for my eternal gratitude, on the giant-ass piece of plot device where the words
