I know this isn't Middle Earth, but I'm pretty sure those creatures want whatever is in that town more than they want to kill us. At least that's what I'm banking on. We dash towards the nearest trees and into the darkness. I don't look back

I can't see far back and the noise of the raid is all I can hear, that and the intense pounding of my heart. We're both clumsy as we stumble through the woods. Em's skirt keeps getting caught on underbrush and the complex braids of her hair on low hanging branches. I don't think he chased us, but we can't risk it.

I come up a steep slope and find that I'm suddenly standing on a road. It's not paved. It doesn't have cobble stones or street lights, but it is definitely a road, a dark windy dirt road leading off into who knows where.

Emma scampers up behind you.

"Oh fuck me. Thank god. Lus we needa res. I'm way tired." She slouched against a rock and slid down slowly until she landed on the ground. She's breathing heavily and likely still on the verge of tears.

There's what appears to be the entrance to a cave on the other side of the road, down a much steeper slope.
