handing in the rewards to Shaxx
You return to Athena's ship, wondering what those two were talking about. You decide it didn't matter to you much, at least not right now, not when a man you could break you like a toothpick is trying to get something from you and you are already late.
You take a look at each of the weapons you grabbed from The Drifter. They are all fairly old and clearly lack the ability for guardians like the ones you saw in the crucible to handle and stay efficient. You begin to take them apart, compiling their components and structures for repurposing.
As you work, you notice a distinct lack of interactions from Failsafe. You drop what you are doing and call for Failsafe, who is on the other side of the room. When she doesn't respond you find yourself bringing your palm to your face.
"We didn't take Failsafe out of sleep mode..." Is something you begin to repeat, laughing at your own foolishness.
The moment was brief before you started working again. It took a while before you finished, and when you did you wondered if any of these new weapons would actually work. Of course, you couldn't test it in the tower.
You unlock the cockpit and take a seat, thinking about where you should go. You think about just going down from the tower to Earth, but your lack of knowledge about the place, and how guardians are constantly going there lead you to decide against it.
You observe the panel of controls for the ship and find a button labeled "LOCATION DIRECTORY." You open it up and find a list of several planets and moons.
Once again, you think about where to go. The unfamiliar environments make you too hesitant, there is only one chance for you after all. You read the list locations and once again bring your palm to your face... Failsafe is not awake to protest a trip to Nessus.
You select Nessus and hear a humming from below you. You see that the ship has begun to fly itself out of the hangar.
You sit there and let the ship fly itself, amazed by its incredible speed.
Eventually you find yourself on Nessus. You exit the ship and wander about until you find a group of Vex. From a good distance you take your newly created weapons and lay them down in front of you.
You lift what was originally a pulse rifle. You have modified it to fire a fully automatic stream of three-round-bursts. You also added on material to make it more comfortable and
You take aim and hold the trigger. You are surprised by how rapidly the bursts came out. The modified body of the gun allowed you to control the recoil of the gun. The Vex you targeted didn't even have time to react. The others around it look towards you and take aim.
You grab your next creation. A sniper rifle that you got a little ambitious with. It is now a sniper which has had its loading and chambering mechanisms replace with that of a pump action shotgun. Your idea was that this would allow easier and faster chambering. It should also allow for more effective loading that allows the guardian to add bullets one at a time for the situation, and to fire as you load in a panic. As you fire, you notice that the sniper has lost plenty of stability and some range as a result, but the Vex is still taken down in one shot.
The last of your weapons is a scout rifle that you managed to turn into a shotgun. The idea is that you should be able to fire spreadshots at a rapid pace with the trigger system of the scout rifle. The gun was quite awkward to hold as you had to change much of the frame for it to work. You are very pleased with the result of running up to the remaining few Vex. The gun worked as expected, it was a lot harder to handle than you would have liked, but getting past that should be no problem for a guardian.
You navigate back to the ship and return to the tower.
You exit the ship and make your way to Shaxx with your three weapons with you. When you hand them to Shaxx, you inform him that you already gave Athena her reward and that these are for him to name and distribute.
"I've never held anything like these." He holds each weapon and aims down their respective sights. "Did you make them yourself?"
"I did."
"Very impressive." He laughs. "Why, these aren't nearly as pretty, or comfortable as those the gunsmith would have made." He puts the weapon he holds down. "But they are unique and hold the heart of their creator!" He taps your chest with his fist. "That, I can tell..." He laughs. "I will gladly name and distribute these on your behalf!" He brings his fist to his own chest. "I wish to collaborate with you again." He grabs the weapons and sets out.
You turn around and are surprised to see Athena.
"He seemed happy with those." She says.
You shrug and then you ask her about what she's been up to.
You two begin walking side by side towards the hangar. "I was assigned a group to do some strikes with. We've been beating up Red Legion all day."
"Who's on the team?"
"There are only three of us I wouldn't really call it a team." She sighs. "I certainly wouldn't claim to a part of that fireteam, and I don't plan to be one for long." She tenses up. "I mean we make a horrible team, no one gets along!"
You wrap your arm around her so that it is resting on her shoulders. "You still didn't answer my question."
She sighs. "Me, and exo hunter and an awoken warlock."
"Do they have names?"
"It isn't like you would know them."
"I've been meeting a lot of people recently."
"The hunter's name is Lilly-7-"
You cut her off. "I met her today, actually."
She looks at you with surprise on her face. "You're messing with me."
You shake your head. "Blue metal and green light?"
"That's her."
You chuckle at your victory. "I certainly haven't met this warlock though."
She chuckles. "I guess I didn't either. "The dude didn't speak a single time throughout the whole day. I know what he looks like, but that's about it."
You two enter the hangar in silence.
"You know-" You start as you approach Athena's ship. "We didn't wake up Failsafe.
Athena looks at you for a moment as the ramp lowers. "For the love of the light-" She smacks her own forehead. "How could you forget!"
You raise your arms defensively. "I wasn't the only one who forgot!"
