Chapter 2 by lunchbox0924 lunchbox0924

What do you see in your reflection?

Yourself, Nathan Hawthorne

'Did I just get fucking superman'd?' How are you supposed to feel about all this? Powers? Not human? 'None of this makes any sense, just as Dad said. Fuck me, "Dad"? I certainly can't wrap my head around that idea; I know my parents; they live 2 hours away in Seattle and raised me my whole life.' You look human in the very least, your hair still a dark mess, and your blue eyes, while still puffy, pop from the redness in them. 'I could look worse for all that's happened so far.'

The mirror edge glows the more you look over yourself; the blue inlay gets brighter with every breath you take until the mirror no longer reflects; it only shines. 'So much light and glowing from all this, you think my "father" could've provided some psionic sunglasses to help.' With that witty thought, though, the mirror's brightness turns down considerably, a dull glare now. The whole mirror morphs into a humanoid figure now, its golden surface becomes skin, and the pulsing blue becomes contrasting lines across the skin, all of it lining up to become something. No, someone; it's you, though its blue eyes glow so much more intensely than yours.

"Soul lineage accepted. Drios line continuation found; activating and executing guidance protocol. Greetings, Master Drios." Okay, that's not freaky in the slightest, though it's debatable on what's worse, the fact that a magic mirror turned into a semi-glowy person or the fact that the person it became is me. 'Um, greetings? What exactly are you?' I smiled; well, it smiled, to be precise; this is just getting creepy. "I am a self-contained Protective and Intrinsic Mirror Entity, however Master Drios, your father called me Prime." Crappy acronyms, gotta love them. 'Master Drios? Why are you calling me that, and what are you supposed to do? The name doesn't help.'

Prime takes a step towards you and points a finger out into the air, and starts drawing a diagram, what looks to be a tree. Oh, family tree time. "Soul lineage continuation connects to the Drios clan; Head of Clan Drios: Alken, your father. Head Matron of Clan Drios: Belina, your mother. You are here, last surviving heir to the Clan: Lahren." Your name is Lahren? Well, it's not worse than Nathan; it feels right, though, like you've been waiting your whole life to hear it. You think you're still stunned to find this as weird as any of it all together should seem. "As to my specific functions, I have innumerable capabilities to assist you and ensure your safety with your introduction unto your birthright. I am to protect and teach you on your path to reclaiming your heritage as laid out by your father. The first of which starts with the Binder." Prime points to the crown still in your hands as it says that.

'Binder? Do you mean the crown? Wait, my parents; my real ones, what were they like?' You hoped they weren't secretly evil, and you're going to end up following in their footsteps. Prime again smiles and steps back while morphing, this time in the form of a man, who's maybe a head taller than yourself. He has deep-set eyes and a sharp jaw and the same head of dark hair as you. Your father, it seems. "Alkendrios: Head of Drios Clan, deemed by peers to be intelligent, kind, ruthless, and the most powerful of the Starters. Missing for an unknown period of time, presumed and declared dead by all clans." 'Starters?' "The head of each clan were the first existential entities before the universe was present, a time before time if you will. The "Starters" as they were deemed, created the universe with their combined power to see if they were capable of such a feat. All 5 clan heads self-designated a part of the universe to create. Your father was credited as the creator of light and darkness as a result. As to your mother..." Prime shifted again, but the new figure was shorter now. With me being 6'0, the figure came up to mid-chest and no taller, a bright red mane of hair appeared, and viciously violet eyes shone out. This seems to be your mother; your father knew how to pick them. "Belinadrios: Head Matron of Clan Drios, deemed by peers to be protective, compassionate, brutally efficient, and a woman of few words. Your father deemed her his most beautiful creation, one constructed from pure light given form. Creator and Curator of the Binder. Missing for an unknown period of time, presumed and declared dead by all clans."

'So my father made my mother from light itself? He didn't have a body himself before the universe, though.' "Events before the universe's creation are unrecorded, simply told." Well, isn't that lovely; my father helped make the universe and then made my mother from light. I've died. That's gotta be it, somebody actually broke in, killed me, and I'm now in hell for my sins. That explains it all. '_I just need to sit down.' _Feeling a little dizzy you put yourself on the couch and lean on the armrest.

"I shall explain the Binder to you, Master; it is my primary function after all. Please do not overwhelm yourself with this jarring transition; I shall be with you every second of the way." Prime began to shift again, but you really didn't want to listen to yourself talking about this possible existence ending artifact. Plus, it didn't hurt that the figure of your other mother was a bombshell to look at, and it helped that seeing her be **** and gentler to you than your "human" mother ever was made this all feel less impossible to grasp. 'Could you keep this form Prime? I find it... better to experience' "Certainly Master, to start with what is needed to know, please don the Binder to set the Anchor." Prime does a cute little pantomime of putting on a hat and points at you; I guess you refer to it as she now? Still weird.

The Crown or "Binder" sits perfectly on your head; tilting or rocking around doesn't move it in the slightest. "Now, Master, this next step is up to you to understand as I am not capable of psionic talent. Your father stated that connecting to his energy was akin to falling; your mother said it felt like swallowing a star. Everyone in the species was recorded as having a different connection to their psionic power, thus believing why the soul was important to preserve within an individual. Please let the Binder guide you, and all will become clear."

You take a breath and sit back on the couch, letting yourself relax since the beginning of this crazy-ass day. The stress must be getting to you again as you don't even notice yourself falling asleep until you're out.

How do you feel when you awaken?
