What's next?
Your mother goes with the doctor.

"Alright." your mother said after a moment's deliberation; the last thing you wanted to hear right now.
"But-" was all you could say in opposition before she cut you off.
"It's fine, Nurse. I'm going to get to the bottom of this." Now, you know your mother's a tough woman, and she's very good at getting her way when it comes to arguments, but there's something about these two men suggesting to you that they might not play entirely fair. You're too late to do anything however, as she has already stepped into the room the suited man had indicated.
"Thank you ma'am. Rest assured, we'll soon have things cleared up." the suited man says, following your mother in and closing the door behind him. The heavy thunk it makes makes your borrowed heart do a heavy pound of its own.
Time passes. Rebecca still hasn't calmed down enough to return, and neither has your mother emerged from the sideroom. The doctor glances at you with an irritated look on his face. "I'm sure there's some other important business you need to be attending to, Nurse." he says, with a hint of suggestion in his voice.
"No, Doctor," you state flatly, glaring at him, "there isn't."
Just then, the door opens and your mother steps in with an odd smile on her face and holding the case that contained the strange device. "Is everything sorted now, miss?" the doctor dryly asks.
"Oh yes!" Your mother almost cries with enthusiasm, making you step back in alarm. "Your associate went over everything with me in detail, and I must say he was a very charming man! I see now that this is all perfectly above board, and give my full approval! In fact, as a show of integrity, he even said I could use this wonderful device myself!"
You are completely dumbfounded. A shocked "What?" is all you can manage to squeeze out of your host's mouth, but at least it catches your mother's attention.
"Oh, are you still here, Nurse? I'm sorry to have taken up so much of your time, but as you can see, everything's fine now, so you're free to go!" She smiles, but with an odd stare in her eyes.
"But-"
"You heard the woman, Nurse," the doctor interrupts menacingly, "you are free to leave."
In you befuddled state, it is all you can manage to stagger out the door, only catching a glimpse of your mother turning to your unconscious body and opening the case. Stumbling down the corridor, you realise that whatever happened to your mother, there is now no way you are going to be able to prevent the doctor - or your mother, for that matter - from using the device, regardless of what it does. You might not have much time.
