Chapter 13

Who do you think is the sleeper agent?
You think Despedida is the sleeper agent!
You didn't want to suspect her, but you thought that the seemingly laid-back Mexican agent was probably the mole. After all, her manipulation of tech would make it easy to remotely kill the former handlers and even easier to cover her tracks. What did every CEDIT mission involve? Tech and gadgets... having mastery over those meant commanding every battlefield. It was truly frightening to imagine what it could mean if she really was the sleeper agent... and sometimes, Murphy's Law was proven. In this case, you suspected that the one with a room full of modified CEDIT gadgets could be leaking those secrets outside and using them to sabotage the organization from the inside.
"R-Really? Despedida?" Goodbye gasped, then looked to her laptop with a woeful frown, as if fearing for her own cyber security now more than ever. "I guess she's a bit hard to read sometimes... But you really think she's the mole? Why?"
You laid out all of your reasons to Goodbye... {if Despedida's Warning = 1}Early on, when you'd just met Despedida, she warned you to get out of the assignment and flee, because your life would surely be in danger. On face value, that was a compassionate act... but what if that warning was coming from the person behind the killings? She may have even warned the other Ciaos the same way, then killed them when they didn't heed her message. Why? Hard to say... but it did stand out that she was the only one of the Girls who'd tried to persuade you to leave.{endif}{if Au Revoir's Suspicion of Despedida = 1}
You couldn't forget what Au Revoir had pointed out... Despedida really was the only person who could have tampered with her own gadgets to produce the odd message from Namaste. Nobody else had that kind of tech skill that you knew of, even among enemy organizations. Nobody else had the opportunity either... you didn't know how she'd accomplished it, but you couldn't shake the feeling that she and this "Namaste" were the same person.{endif}{if Despedida's Suspicion of Au Revoir = 1}
There was also the matter of the suspicion Despedida had cast onto Au Revoir. She had been very eager to let you know that Au Revoir was an Adder agent in previous days... Part of you suspected that she'd been doing that as a way of deflection. She knew that you wanted to suspect somebody loud and dangerous like Au Revoir, so she just gave you a nudge in that direction. Really, she was the only Goodbye Girl who didn't act dangerous 24/7... in a way, that made her suspicious.{endif}
"Hm, I think I see what you're saying... It gives me the shivers, imagining someone with access to that much of our technology could be working for the enemy. That cute face is just a facade, huh? Brrr...." Goodbye finished writing, underlined something a few times, then moved on to the next topic of conversation.
What comes next?
