How will this date go?
You should go as Harley, just to make sure it goes well.
As much as you want to believe what you’ve done so far has been enough, you can’t. What if, the second you stop possessing Harley, she gets back together with Donny? Or what if she does go on the date with you, and it sucks, and you never get to be with her? No, you realize that going on the date as her is the best idea.
Going back to messaging James, you tell him to meet you at the theater in half an hour. You get yourself ready to go out, which comes weirdly natural to you, including fixing your make-up after that little cry session. Before you know it, you’re at the theater, waiting for James.
You don’t have to wait long. “Hey, Harley!” he says, waving to you as he approaches. It’s so weird to see your normal body like this, from the outside. Filtered through Harley’s emotions, you find yourself thinking that James is definitely cute...though Donny was cuter. You shake your head, trying to dislodge those thoughts, just as James asks what kind of movie you want to watch.
Thinking it over, you tell him he should choose. He chooses exactly what you expected, the kind of movie you normally liked to watch. It’s some new sci-fi blockbuster, not a lot of action to it but a bunch of romance. It’s actually a good idea, you consider, a weird bridging of the gaps between what he likes and what he thinks Harley would like. You do feel like Harley might like the movie, so you agree to the idea.
It’s not long after that that you and James are sitting in the theater, sharing soda and popcorn. You’re in the back, which has always been your favorite place to avoid noisy people at the movies. The movie is pretty good, but halfway though you start to notice that James is kind of fidgety. At first, you’re not sure why, until you realize he probably wants to do something date-like with you but is afraid to.
Realizing you’ll need to take control, you smile and lean into him, and after a second he puts an arm on your shoulder. You’re amazed at how...nice this feels. You stay like that with him for the rest of the movie, and after you and James walk outside, you plant a kiss on his cheek and tell him, “We should see eachother again, tomorrow. I think I’d like to be your girlfriend.” It sounds kind of weird to say, but you think that doing so will make this stick better, or at least you hope it will.
After driving back to Harley’s dorm, you use the ring and suddenly you’re back in your own body. It’s been long enough that, for just a few minutes, it actually feels really weird to be in a guy’s body. You’d started to grow used to being a girl.
It’s become obvious to you that using the ring does more than help you take over someone’s body. The longer you’re in there, the more they start to affect how you think. You put the ring in the bottom of a cluttered drawer for now, and resolve not to use it until you have to. The next few days are pretty great without it. Harley does seem to like dating you, and it’s not long before you’re both social media official with each other. You’ve got the girlfriend you wanted...but what makes you use the ring again?
Why do you use the ring again?
