You get a phone call

An hour or so after he leaves in a huff, your phone rings. It's James. You hit the send button to answer, and he starts talking right away. "Please don't hang up, sweetheart" he says in a defensive voice. "Listen, I'm sorry for walking out on you like that. I shouldn't have got so mad at you. It's your body, and you have every right to decide when you want to have a baby. I love you."

"Where are you?" you ask. "I'm just down the street here at the local watering hole. I've had a few to drink, and I ran into a mutual friend of ours."

"Oh? Who's that?" you ask inquisitively.

"Nicole Rogers, your old college roommate" he answers. "She talked some sense into me, and said I should call you to at least let you know I was all right, and that I wasn't mad at you. She said a lot of things to me that made sense."

He ran into Nicole? At the bar? You start to feel twinges of jealousy and panic setting in. You know Nicole is after him. She let you know that in no uncertain terms. But how do you handle it? You just can't come out and tell him. Not with Nicole right there on the spot with him. You decide to play it cool. "So when will you be home?"

You can hear the bar noise in the background, and then hear James ask Nicole "So when will Arthur be here?" You hear Nicole answer "He said in about half an hour, and then we can give you a ride home. I really would like you and Katherine to meet him. You'll like him a lot. He's an incredible man." James gets back on the phone with you. "Be there in about a half an hour. We're waiting on Arthur to pick us up. Nicole really wants us to meet him. I'll probably bring a couple of sixes home, too."

You know there's nothing you can say to stop this. It's been one terribly fucked up day, starting with running into Nicole, and probably ending with Nicole. You have no idea what she has planned, but you have a bad feeling about it. "All right, sweetheart. I'll see you when you get here. Love you!"

"I love you, too, babe!" says James before he hangs up.
