“John! There you are. Come on, there weren’t any other boys so we didn’t open their locker room. Besides, the men’s gym teacher is out, so…” Her voice drifted off, as it sometimes did.

Kathy looked excited. She turned around and gave me a huge grin. “Come on John! Let’s go in!” She jogged over and grabbed me by the hand before I could say anything. I was speechless. She took me back down the hall with her, to the girl’s locker room door, still propped open by Ms. Tittle.
“Hey, maybe you can even be my gym partner! Mine dropped out.”
