Chapter 218 by robyna

Did it eventually shake something loose?

Yes, marketing

In the post-coital cooldown, Rick had a flashback to his first marketing class in college. The professor had gone on and on about identifying target markets, determining their needs, and creating a story that would be compelling and encourage them to do something they'd never done before.

Before smartphones, nobody knew they needed a thousand dollar phone. Before PCs, how many people had been sitting around wishing that they had a computer of their own to play games with? Before the Internet, how many people had wished they could spend eighty dollars a month on broadband so they could watch cat videos and porn? Yet smart marketers had come up with stories to persuade most of America that they needed smartphones, needed PCs, needed the Internet, needed a million other things that could generate money for companies.

At bio-DNA, he'd worked on generating a story for their target market... the rich and successful businessmen who could afford the million dollar pricetag of bio-DNA... either for themselves or for their mistresses, daughters, or theoretically even wives. And it had worked. The company was generating billions of dollars. But while Usha tickled his balls, something tickled at the back of his mind.

Since he'd been on bio-DNA, he hadn't gotten sick. Which wasn't a huge deal because he was pretty healthy. But Dan hadn't gotten sick either. As far as he could tell, nobody who'd taken bio-DNA had gotten sick, which made a certain amount of sense. If you can customize your body to the point where you can transform yourself into someone younger, surely you could transform yourself into someone who didn't get sick.

Bio-DNA was a multi-billion dollar company... big enough to swing huge clout in the Dallas suburbs. But the U.S. healthcare business wasn't a billion dollar industry, it was a multi-trillion dollar industry. Paying for it was bankrupting the Federal and state governments. Anyone who could eliminate the need for all that spending could essentially transform the world economy. Anyone who could deliver an affordable approach to universal health care could be elected President. Hell, Trump had gotten elected just saying he would do something when he didn't have a clue what he was talking about.

So, Marketing 101. Who was the target market? Obviously Rita Prince, the scientist/investor who'd come up with the idea in the first place. What was the story she needed to hear? That bio-DNA executives had gotten so caught up in fucking their secretaries that they'd forgotten about making multi-trillions of dollars. And that Rita could be President and a trillionaire if she would cut them loose and make bio-DNA available to everyone... with the government paying a small fraction of what they paid for Medicare, Medicaid, Veterans' Administration, and countless other agencies involved in promoting health or dealing with disease.

But... how to get the message to her?
