Chapter 23 by Gabidy Gabidy

How does Wullin take it?

Wullin sits down and hears you out...but he doesn't seem concerned.

"What about Ms. Erin? Her department is working perfectly." Soriksen said, tilting his head slightly. Michael looked at his goggles, which did nothing to translate any emote his eyes might have, though the brow furrow did translate.

"To you, and especially to her, it might. And I get that, the system is working as intended." Michael said, schmoozing him up a little

"Yesyes" Soriksen said

"Yes, however, I feel, as the lead of maintenance--" you continued

"Weren't you demoted? Took an unauthorized vacation?" Soriksen cut him off

"I was demoted, which violated my contract, and I was **** onto vacation because Ms. Erin said I needed a break--" Michael tried to continue

"Oh" Soriksen's face got even paler somehow, "Yesyes, I'll get you repromoted. Don't want the Contract Guild blockading the station."

"Yes, thank you. As the lead of maintenance, again. I set up a new prioritization system for the tickets--" Michael continued with increasing exacerbation.

"Yesyes, that fiasco, Ms. Erin said it was a cyber attack." Soriksen interrupted again.

"Yes, well, it wasn't. When I was able to maintain access to this system, I fixed no less than 20 critical system repairs, including the reactor rod exchanger, a ring gyroscope, and a compromised airlock - which had an entire sector on lockdown." Michael said, so focused on getting this ridiculous situation fixed, he wasn't even noticing just how much food Brianna was putting away.

"Yesyes, I wondering how those were fixed out of order, it was really frustrating. I had to deal with there being no light in the admin breakroom vending machine." Soriksen said, as if discerning some great truth

"Yes and-- wait what?" Michael started but was shook from his train of thought by Soriksen's apathy, or disconnect, or or whatever it was.

"Yesyes, the light was out, I had the most difficult time getting Sulitzer Creamy Crunch bars for Miss Brianna."

"Mr. Soriksen. Some of the repairs I did by reworking the ticket system could've resulted in the destruction of the station."

"Yesyes, that's bad, but I wouldn't want her to have to go without just because of a fix that takes five minutes."

"Yes," Michael replied, ever enjoying how large and soft Brianna was, always from afar. "But it's better than her dying in the vacuum of space."

"Yesyes, that is true, but you got it handled, so I'm sure it's all fine now." Soriksen waved his hands, more focused on Brianna eating than the ever-present potential doom of the station.

"Yesyes, but I wouldn't ever found those tickets if I hadn't hacked the system, so I need you to help me out here and tell Ms. Erin that I need to control the ticket priority. If you do, I'll put in a good word for you with Brianna." Michael tried his best bribe attempt

"You could do that?" Soriksen replied

"I could try." Michael responded, hoping it would work

"Yesyes, could try, but I know I'll get there by getting her food from the admin cafeteria." Soriksen tapped the side of his temple

"Yesyes, but sir--" Michael tried

"Look, Zambac, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Old deepgrounder saying, so just keep your nose to that grindstone and I'm sure you'll get it sorted out." Soriksen waved him off as he rejoined the crowd pushing food at Brianna, happily watching her eat. Michael stayed for a bit as well, it was honestly a Marvel to think that only a few months ago Brianna had been thin as a rail, and now she was, what? Four times that? At least? It was arousing to watch, that was for sure. You made a note to send her a message about her ongoing condition, and headed back to work. It felt like a waste, but you had made at least one step in the right direction.

What happens next?
