Chapter 20 by MidbossMan MidbossMan

What's next?

Wrap Up for Operation Sleep Mode

MISSION COMPLETE

Objective Status: After initially meeting with resistance from CEDIT Russia's welcoming party, the Goodbye Girls eventually made their way to Bortnik's compound. Your team infiltrated the compound and extracted the rogue doctor. Bortnik's hired men and the Deliverers on site were {if Tschau Cleared First Floor = 1}eliminated by Tschau and Ciao.{endif}{if Tschau's Fear of Rats = 1}incapacitated and taken into custody by CEDIT Russia.{endif} A large number of non-hostile scientists and mechanists were subdued on the lower floor. The vast majority of Bortnik's robots were destroyed. The rest of Bortnik's experiments and property have been seized by CEDIT Russia. In the end, {if Tschau Spared Bortnik = 1}Ciao made the decision to take Bortnik back to Washington, rather than surrendering the hostage to Russia.{endif}{if Bortnik Killed Himself = 1}the mad doctor took his own life. His corpse, along with its valuable prosthetics, was taken back to Washington.{endif}{if Bortnik in Russian Custody = 1}Ciao made the decision to hand over the doctor as per mission instructions.{endif} Limited interrogation of Doctor Ivan Bortnik suggested his reason for allying himself with the Deliverers-- as well as for many of his other decisions predating the CEDIT Russia incident-- was the guidance of a "Machine Voice," a second conscience that advises him on very specific actions.

Ciao's Confidential Report to Goodbye: This mission ended up far more twisted than I had expected. If nothing else, it was a stark reminder about how strained the relationships between CEDIT branches remain, especially in regards to CEDIT Russia. I believe that the old guard of mad roboticists who caused the original CEDIT Russia incident that so badly affected Tschau are mostly alive and well inside their ranks. I would like to personally recommend an international investigation be launched, but in the end, it falls to you to decide whether to act upon that recommendation.

Tschau and Despedida performed up to their old standard. I feel the team's beginning to trust me and treat me as one of their own. I'm no longer "New Ciao" in most cases... The Girls have opened up quite a bit. I would go so far as to say that they appear to be developing romantic interests in me, not just as a sexual partner, but as a lover. If so, this will only benefit Operation Master Stroke and my ability to collect information using the Rabbit Badge. I'll keep you abreast of further developments in that area.{if Tschau's Brain = 1}

I learned more about Tschau than I feel comfortable knowing; it almost seems an invasion of privacy. As it turns out, her cybernetics are not just in her hands and legs, but even her brain. However, we can take comfort in the fact that Ivan claimed she never heard the "Machine Voice" he did.{endif}{if Despedida is Enriqueta = 1}

Despedida actually opened up to me so much to the point that she was willing to tell me what I believe to be her real name. I doubt she's ever been this close to anyone in the force before. Hopefully, with a little more time, I can finally begin to unravel her history. It can't be as uneventful as she claims.{endif}

{if Tschau Spared Bortnik = 1}I found myself surprised and impressed by the way Tschau handled herself in Bortnik's presence. She was very close to murdering the man before she sheathed her blade. Seeing this level of discipline from her makes me think that we should consider trusting her all the more going forward. She may even be a valuable ally in our search for the sleeper agent.{endif}{if Bortnik Killed Himself = 1}I'm chastising myself for not doing more to prevent Bortnik's self-destruction. At the same time, I can't believe Despedida allowed that to happen. I hate to be so tough on her, but frankly, that was a gross oversight from such a brilliant hacker. Still, I don't see what she'd gain from allowing it to happen, so I can dismiss it as an unpreventable casualty for now.{endif}{if Bortnik in Russian Custody = 1}The decision to hand Bortnik back over to the Russians was not easily made. Tschau, Despedida, and even I would have liked to see the man dead. However, in the end, I yielded to your instructions. In doing so, I hope that I avoided an international incident, as you wanted. In time, we will see if that was the right call. If we're looking at Skynet in a few years, like something out of your favorite Terminator movies, I'm pushing the blame back on you.{endif}

As a final note: I sustained some heavy injuries during the fight with Bortnik. It was a good reminder of my own mortality. I've got a long way to go before I truly fit in with the Goodbye Girls. I'll have to request a leave from any physically strenuous activity until I make a recovery...

((New content is now available! In the new update, you'll find you may be able to access new threesome options in Operation Master Stroke. If you can't yet, don't fret! There will be more opportunities to build affinity points so that you can! As an aside, I found a bug related to some of Vaarvel's free-time events. Hopefully, those are fixed now. If you thought you should have options with her earlier and didn't, I apologize!))
