Chapter 5

What were you thinking?
What about that restaurant?
"What do you know about the restaurant gig?" you asked, remembering your first real job working at Danny's in college. Your degree wouldn't get you far in s town without coding jobs, but you'd still put in about three years there, working part time.
Aimee smiled back at you, then answered, "Oh well I might be able to help with that! I used to, uh, *know* the manager there." She winked, then continued as you rolled your eyes internally, "It's like a burger-bar place called, oh what was it..." She curled her hair around a finger as she struggled to remember it, then snapped her fingers as it clicked, "Bunz!" They've got *really* cute uniforms!
Great. 'Bunz' sounded like half a step from one of those bikini coffee shops. You tried to smile back, but something died inside you and Aimee must have noticed.
"No, don't look at me like that! It's a classy place! And Ben is super sweet! Please say you'll give it a shot, Stefi!" She made a sad puppy face at you, and you couldn't help but grin back at her after a moment of it.
"Alright, I'll take a look at the place, at least. It's near the mall, you said?" You weren't looking forward to it, but you could at least check it out.
"Yup! I'll come with you, and we can grab lunch, too!"
"Sure!" you said, sounding more cheerful than you'd expected. Aimee was really reaching out to help you. The two of you spent the rest of the drive exchanging stories and getting to know one another, and by the time she parked the car, you were both laughing and feeling happier and more carefree than you had in days. "Thanks for dragging me out here, Aimee," you said, genuinely happy to be focusing on something besides your move. It felt good to have made a friend.
She turned toward you, beaming, and darted forward, catching you in a quick, tight hug. "Any time!" Her perfume wasn't as cloying today, but you were still glad to breathe freely when she broke the hug. "Now let's go get your interview sorted out, then we can shop!"
You smiled back at her and nodded, and she kept you through the mall toward the restaurant. "Bunz" was basically what you'd expected, but still did have a classy sort of vibe. The exterior had a very retro look, like it was lifted from the 60s, with bright pastel colors and smooth lines. Inside, you were greeted by a young hostess wearing what must have been the "cute uniform" Aimee had mentioned.
She was a bit shorter than you, with coffee-colored skin and a curvy frame. Those curves were emphasized by the tight white tank top and 'booty' shorts she wore. The top bore the restaurant's logo, a (clearly female) cartoon rabbit holding a plate of burgers. Her name tag said "Emma."
"Hey there, table for two?" She asked, smiling with dimples.
You opened your mouth, but Aimee answered, "Yep! By the bar if we can, is Ben in?" You'd been thinking about backing out, but Aimee was apparently determined to 'help' you.
Emma blinked, then chewed her lip, "Yeah, he's around. Is anything wrong?" She turned around to look across the restaurant, and you noticed that her shorts had a fluffy rabbit tail sewn into the back.
She also had a *fantastic* ass. You weren't usually into women, but you were almost disappointed when she turned back around.
Aimee's eyes widened, and she patted Emma on the arm reassuringly. "Oh no! I just know him from a while back and thought I'd put in a good word for Stefi here!"
She pulled you forward a step, and you extended a hand, shaking Emma's in introduction. "Hi, uh, Emma," you stammered, "good to meet you. I heard you were hiring?"
Emma smiled a bit more genuinely as you shook, "Yeah, we've been looking for another server. You have any experience? You should apply! Let me seat you to and then I'll scare up Ben." She walked you through the restaurant and you spotted two more servers on your way to your table, then sat with Aimee while Emma disappeared.
You looked around at the other tables, noticing that while there were certainly a number of couples and small groups, the clientele certainly skewed toward men. As you watched, a young woman in one of those revealing uniforms leaned over a table to take an order, giving a generous view of her cleavage to the men seated there. As she turned to leave with their order, she gave her butt a playful wiggle and they chuckled their approval.
"I don't know if I can work here, Aimee," you confessed, feeling a complicated mix of apprehension and scorn at the prospect. "It's a little... I don't know."
"It's a little fun!" Aimee said, "and they've got the *best* milkshakes here! Hey don't worry about the job thing, alright? Order something and we can talk about it after."
You nodded, still unsure, then pondered the menu, thinking it over and picked your meal:
What did you order?
