Chapter 4

What's next?
What? No cake?!
Returning home with the kids running through the front door with their prizes and memorabilia in hand from the boardwalk amusement park, Susan and Reed entered the living room to sit down at their couch while Johnny groaned on his way back to his bedroom to nurse his hangover. Ben made his way over to a chair and sat heavily in the recliner pointed towards the television, the reinforced chair immediately unfolding out to let the rocky skinned man lean back and rest his tired feet. Picking up the remote, the Thing turned on the 72-inch screen and grinned as the playoffs started.
“Dinner will be ready in a couple hours kids.” Called out Sue from her seat, looking over across the couch to find them both heading to their room, with Valaria snuggling her stuffed animal toy prize like it was a pet cat. “Did you two have fun?”
“OH, MY GAWD! IT’S SO FLUFFY!!!” Squealed Valaria, shaking the oversized teddy bear in her arms back and forth.
“We got a picture of us on the Cyclone!” Waved Franklin with the photo in hand Showing the two children in the front seat, their parents in the seating behind them, Ben taking up an entire lap bar behind them and Johnny upchucking out the side of the rail in the first drop. “I hope Uncle John feels better.”
A retching noise could be heard from the hallway as Johnny ran from his room to the bathroom, his stomach still hadn’t settled as he closed the door behind him, which only muffled his groans.
“He’ll feel better kids, go on and head to your rooms, I bet you can find a place for your new prizes.”
The two raced off down the hallway with their trinkets and toys in hand, only pausing when they heard Johnny throw up again at the toilet before picking up speed and slamming their bedroom door behind them.
“Heh, glad they had fun… How about YOU Reed?”
Combing her fingers through her long blonde hair, Susan sighed, relaxing now that she and the others were home, they had spent the better part of the day at the park, and they were all tired by the time they had crossed the threshold of the front door. That is, except for Susan. Maybe it was all the sweets she had been eating all day, or the excitement or something else, but she just felt so… Energised. Turning her attention to see her husband rest his head at the back cushion of the couch with a sigh, the woman narrowed her eyes with a grin and turned to drape herself over her husband, playfully kissing his eyebrow to wake him up.
“Well…? That was fun, wasn’t it?”
“Hmm? Yes, yes, being billed for property damages was the real highlight of the day.” Chuckled the man, shaking his head as he remembered back to how he had to explain to the owners of Luna Park that his WIFE was the one that destroyed the punching booth with one punch and not Ben, then there was the check he had to sign to pay for all the damages. “Probably broke even with the stuffed toys the kids got out of it… I hope they’re hypoallergenic.”
“Pfff….” Snorting with a chuckle and covering her mouth with one hand, Susan leaned over and rested her head on Reed’s shoulder, cuddling up beside him as a football game played in the background on the nearby television. Ben had changed the channel to catch the game, but the married couple weren’t paying attention to it. “Still have enough energy for a little ‘US’ time?”
“Well…” Reed replied sleepily, scratching his chin with a finger, his one eye open looking back at her as she puffed up her cheeks in a pout. “There are some projects in the lab that require my attention now that we’re home again, that might take a little time to document… But I might still have some energy after dinner.”
Her playful smile back with full ****, Susan gently cupped at his chin and pulled him close for a kiss.
“Well then, one delicious dinner coming right up, followed by some fun of our own later tonight.”
Getting up from the couch, Susan was about to head to the kitchen when she felt Reed’s hand in hers, pulling her gently to a stop.
“By the way, honey. How DID you do that to the punch tester?”
Shrugging, Susan was just as surprised as her husband about that moment at the park. “I dunno, I wasn’t even using my powers either.”
“Strange…” Letting her go and getting up to his feet to join her, Reed kissed his wife on the cheek and made his way down the hall towards their kid’s room. “I’ll check on Valaria and Franklin to see if they’re hungry, and after I check a few things in the lab, later we can have some fun after dinner when it gets late.”
Heading to the kitchen with a smile and a skip in her step, Susan looked up to the ceiling and called down their home’s AI.
“Good afternoon HERBIE.”
“Hello Mrs. Richards, how can I be of service?”
“I’m thinking of a big dinner for the family after that outing at the boardwalk… Got anything in mind for a family that spent 7 hours on roller coasters and spinning rides?”
The artificial intelligence was silent for a couple of seconds before answering the woman tapping her foot on the tiled floor, waiting for a response. “Chicken soup with sandwiches should be good for the stomach… I’m currently reading Mr. Johnny Storm vacating HIS in the restroom as we speak. This should help sooth it.”
Screwing her face into a dirty look and resting her hands at her sides, Susan rolled her eyes. “Too much information HERBIE, but alright, that sound good.”
Smiling and tapping a finger to her lip, the woman had another idea. “A chicken noodle soup dinner with sandwiches… And a great big chocolate cake for dessert.”
“Soup should be prepared momentarily, however the cake will take over an hour to prepare.”
“An hour?!” Wringing her hands together, Susan felt she would starve just from that news alone. Looking to the clock and out the window to find it was dark out now, the woman tip toed in the kitchen, her mind racing on whether she should wait patiently for the cake… Or get something chocolatey from outside. After a staggering minute deep in thought, Susan headed out of the kitchen and took to the front door.
“Hey Suzie, where youz goin?” Asked Ben, seeing the woman almost scramble for the door and got her coat.
“Just heading out to get a snack Ben, HERBIE? Go ahead and make dinner I’ll be back soon.”
“Will do Mrs. Richards, would you like the cake to have any…”
The artificial intelligence was cut off with the door slamming, leaving it and the stony Thing to look at the door with confusion. Shrugging his broad shoulders, Ben went back to watching his game.
“Guess her sweet tooth is worse then we’z thought.”
