Chapter 6 by MrLarsBar MrLarsBar

Gotta go to work now

Wayne Technology Building

Aaron arrived at the Wayne Technology building with a slowness to his steps. He wasn't late but he was bored. Everyday was the same: mundane and tedious.

He worked on the tenth floor's cubicle farm alongside a small team of eight. Each team was assigned a product type and particular floors were given a particular class of technology. For example, floors 10, 11, and 12 were charged with biotech, ensuring the Wayne manufactured products were delivered, traded, and accounted for. The highest floors were where the offices were: the big boys and girls, the managers and directors, the cool office stuff you saw on television. Much of the time of individual contributors, the regular people in the pen of cubicles, were spent communicating with Wayne Enterprises' co-branches: Wayne Biotech, Wayne Chemicals, Wayne Pharmaceuticals, Wayne Industries, Wayne Medical, and of course Wayne Financial.

There was phone calling, lots of yelling, and plenty of coffee. The job itself wasn't difficult. It required a specific set of expertise and knowledge in business and accounting. Luckily for Aaron, he had graduated with double-majors in those exact fields.

The time flew by quickly. Aaron sat in the lunchroom, scrolling through his social medias while drinking coffee and munching on a granola bar.

'Harley Quinn and Poison Ivy on the run, huh? And sightings of ninjas?' He frowned. His lips tasted the sugary meld of coffee. His addiction was temporarily sated and his brain spiked with energy. 'The League of Shadows. That was what Cassandra called them. I feel bad for her. For her own mother to be hunting her down, that's insanely messed up.'

Aaron wondered when he would see her again. Cassandra said she would return once her battle with her mother ended but it was clear she didn't know how long it would take. From the bits and pieces she told, Cassandra's mother was very dangerous.

His ears perked up. A commotion in the main area from the sound of it. Coffee in hand, he headed over.

Everybody had left their cubicles and were crowded in the middle. A middle-aged black woman seemed to be the cause of their attention. There was an air of uncertainty and whispers drenched in anxiety. Aaron snuck in and eavesdropped on two of his coworkers.

"That's Tanya Fox. You know, Lucius Fox's wife? The wife of our CEO? Yep, that's her." His male colleague sounded exasperated. "She's an executive in both Wayne Enterprises and Foxtech. She doesn't do much in terms of decision making but she has a lot of stock in the company."

The second coworker, a woman, summed it up in an envious tone. "In other words, she's a puppet executive and stockholder who does everything her husband tells her to do."

The male colleague snorted. "Bingo."

'Why is she of all people here?' Aaron asked, puzzled. The gossip was genuinely interesting and peculiar. 'No way it's because of me and Cass. I know Lucius Fox is helping the Bat Family but I don't think his wife is…right?'

Aaron simply didn't have enough information. Again, Cassandra told him a lot but not everything. Their five days together was spent less on the dynamics of Batman's operation and more on his dick.

Aaron looked Tanya over. For a woman in her forties, she was quite the beauty. Zero wrinkles on her dark complexion, golden earrings, well-brushed shoulder-length brown hair, and luscious bow-shaped lips.

She wore a white bodycon V-neck dress, professional but bold. Aaron zoned in on her child-bearing hips and that hint of cleavage she showed.

"Is everybody here?" Tanya asked their floor supervisor. The stiff middle-aged man nodded and Tanya took that as a sign to begin her announcement. "I will be the first to say that I am not an entrepreneur like Mr. Wayne nor a leader like my husband. I am a lawyer. I believe in God and I believe in doing good work. This department has made excellent progress in so many ways and I would like to thank each and every one of you for it."

Tanya went on about their accomplishments and their crucial role in Wayne Technologies and the wider economy of Gotham. She kept talking and talking till even Aaron was beginning to lose focus.

"It's the last day of November, the month of Thanksgiving and remembrance. And so, I would like to extend an invitation. In a week's time, on December 6th, we will be hosting a charity. Everybody present will be allowed to attend. There will be food and drinks and much more." Tanya wore a motherly smile. "I hope you will attend. It is a celebration for giving. Not just from the charity but from you."

There was a loud round of applause. The women to his right were whispering about what to wear. A duo to his right were raving about the potential investors and opportunities. Aaron just wanted the day to be over.

Once they had returned to their cubicles, Tanya approached each of them and struck up a conversation. Half-menial and half-professional.

'Honestly, what does the wife of a CEO even do?' Aaron thought to himself. He did a quick search on the internet and confirmed that Tanya was indeed a lawyer but she did very little besides charity work. Tanya and Lucius Fox had married out of love, it seemed, resulting in four kids: two daughters and two sons. The success of the patriarch, however, led to her becoming a part-time housewife and a part-time lawyer.

One name caught his eye: Luke Fox. Cassandra had mentioned him. He was a member of the Bat Family as the second Batwing, the Batman of Africa, but recently took a backseat to his vigilantism.

Aaron peered at Tanya from the corner of his eye. She was laughing and suspiciously close to the young men she was with. 'She seems…strange. Lonely? Hm, I suppose handling not only the company but also Batman Incorporated must be tough on Lucius. That woman is thirsty as hell.'

He didn't think she would cheat on Lucius full on. Her speech spoke volumes about her character. Her bond with religion, her trust in her husband, and her compassion for people. Aaron doubted she would go further than flirting and exchanging looks. That was the kind of woman she was.

"Hello," Tanya said, dark red lips blooming into a smile. "Mr. Reigner, right?"

His name was on his cubicle, thus explaining her faux familiarity. Aaron turned his chair around and replied, "Yes. Aaron Reigner, it's great to finally meet you, ma'am."

She handed him the invitation. "Here. I hope to see you, Mr. Reigner." There was a twinkle in her eye. A spark of lust. He could sense her eyeing him top-to-bottom, lingering on his crotch.

"Thank you, Mrs. Fox." Aaron couldn't help but sound bored and disinterested. "I will make it a priority."

"What do you do at home," she said quite suddenly. "Work out, I presume?"

"I used to back in college. Not much time for it anymore though."

"Really? Could have fooled me." Tanya showcased her brilliant white teeth, smiling delightfully. "You look very fit."

Shoulder leaning on the side of the cubicle, arms across her chest, she seemed professional from the outside. Her gaze said anything but that.

Aaron didn't blink. He was accustomed to these types of stares. Because of his reclusive good looks, from his wavy, unfrazzled black hair to his piercing grey eyes, women tended to stare at him like an animal. Aaron was silent and introverted so there wasn't any conversation, only admiration from afar.

"You too," Aaron said, indifferent. She was hot, a real MILF, but as great a fuck as she would be Aaron wasn't stupid. Fucking the wife of his company's CEO spelled disaster. Literal career-suicide. Twenty-five years down the drain. Tanya seemed to get the hint.

"Next time, then, Mr. Reigner."

With that, she went off to the next person and Aaron went back to work. Typing on the keyboard rapidly and precisely and without needing to look down. Aaron was good at office work, hence why he did it.

The clock ticked. His peers talked and worked. Aaron took a sip of his coffee. The fourth cup today. Eventually, his floor supervisor decided they should go and celebrate Tanya Fox's invitation. Aaron wasn't too keen on going but unfortunately everybody was attending. It would look weird if he was the only person declining.

His legs urged him to go home but alas his coworkers were pressing him to join. The taxi was crowded and the smell of overworked office workers made his nose crinkle.

Go or nah?
