Warzone Gotham

Chapter 20 by Colleem Colleem

Within hours, Gotham had transformed itself from a grim city into a war zone. Police were not fully prepared for this sudden rise in crime. SWAT teams and other law enforcement special forces were on the move around the clock. The chief of police had almost every man and woman on the streets and yet reports kept coming in that the normal police were not sufficiently armed for such situations. The SWATS were permanently on duty and drove from one location to another. Everywhere in Gotham civil war-like conditions had broken out and, on many streets, gangs were fighting in open fire.

While the police literally worked their asses off to restore order, the media tried to keep uninvolved citizens off the streets. Other reporters, on the other hand, were very close to the battles to show as many good pictures as possible and got in the way of the rescue services.

School.

Immediately after the first reports the security forces of the academy started to seal the school. While the students themselves had been sent to the rooms, the security forces patrolled the grounds. In the command room, Brigadier General A.D. Connors sat in front of him and monitored the monitors. He was one of the few who knew exactly what responsibility was on his shoulders. However, he still looked at the matter quite calmly. There were only a few half-strong ones with weapons. Nothing that would overcome the defense forces of this school. Not with the two aces he still had up his sleeve.

"Smith. Status?" he asked the patrol leader over the radio.

"Enemy movement in the eastern quadrant. A cluster of 30 men. Moving toward us. Orders?"

"Send Teams 2, 3, 4 and 5 to the sector. Team 1 will take the western sector and team 6 will take the northern sector."

"Sir. That would leave the eastern sector unguarded. The sports facilities would be completely unprotected."

"Don't worry about it, Smith. No one will be able to go through this area." When he stopped the radio, he smiled at the blonde woman at his side. "If I might ask you to do it?"

With a simple nod, Karen left the room. It was a strategically wise decision to divide the teams this way. It would have been easy for her to deal with these 30 attackers, but then there would have been far too many questions asked. The probability that the school would be attacked from more than one direction was quite low. Surely the attackers did not even know what they were attacking. All they cared about was chaos and destruction. Slowly she walked through the empty gym and could hear the security men outside opening fire after they came under fire. She was sure this mob wouldn't have a chance. The security had the best equipment money could buy, home-field advantage and General Connors had hand-picked everyone. Even some weaker supervillains would have trouble with a team like that. Suddenly, however, their attention was distracted by the loudspeaker in the hall.

"Ma'am. Contact in your sector. Thermal imaging shows multiple contacts."

"Thank you. I'll take care of it." She replied and looked around with an x-ray eye. She could see the people clearly. There were 9 of them, who were just sneaking along the pool and walking directly in her direction. Sighing, Karen left the gym and stood smiling on the other side of the pool.

"Good evening, gentlemen. May I see your school IDs?" she smiled and crossed her arms in front of her chest. Her opponents were between 20 and 30 years old and wore conspicuously painted faces. Some of them wore masks, others had scarves in front of their faces. None of them carried a firearm, but everything from knives to baseball bats was there. That would make things a lot easier.

"Karen... I expect you to resolve this situation quickly and decisively." Heard it in her ear and had to grin. Apparently, Helen was up to date with the situation at school and had given her an order via the personal com-link. "I expect an example. Solve this task well and you will be rewarded! But don't overdo it!"

Karen felt a shiver running through her whole body at these words and she clenched her fists. The men had come up to her in the meantime and laughed at her in a good mood and made the usual lewd jokes. Rolling her eyes, she ignored the stupid jokes and got ready to fight. As soon as the first of the guys wanted to grab her tits she grabbed her wrist and applied a little pressure. Even without her superhuman senses she could hear the bones breaking. With a playful turn of her wrist the man flew and went down screaming. One of the others swung out with a baseball bat and aimed directly at her head. With an angry curse he had rushed there to avenge his comrade. Karen slowly turned her head towards the attack. Almost bored, she watched as the bat hit her cheek. When the oakwood struck the Kryptonian skin, it was clear how it would end. Karen barely felt anything touch her while the bat cracked and broke.

Smiling, Karen stroked a strand of wood from her face and wiped some wood shavings from her shoulder.

"My turn." She smiled and spun around. Martial arts combined with her powers might have been a bit much, but it would maintain the camouflage of this school. She hit the guy right on the chest and had to pull herself together not to split him in two. Human lives were not as important to her as they used to be. The only thing she cared about were the rewards of her mistress. She was the only one who knew what Karen really needed. A strong hand and firm leadership.

It took less than half a minute for her sector to be cleared and when she looked up at the school where she could see Helen standing at the window. Despite this distance Karen could see that Helen was wearing nothing but a latex body and the crack of the whip echoed in Karen's ears.

"My reward!" Karen grinned.
