Try as you might you simply cannot bring your hand to the door. You feel sick to your stomach, dreading your loss of freedom, and the chance at a normal life. You feel certain that even an impoverished life would be preferable to whatever awaits you beyond that door.

You could run away. What would happen to your family if you did? Would they be punished if you never arrived? Anything could have happened on your way to your new master's house. You could have been kidnapped by thugs or pirates. You could have gotten lost. What would happen if you arrived tomorrow instead of today?
