Veterinarian

Kate had looked over several charts as she sat at the receptionist desk in the vet clinic where she worked. Well, it was still her first day on the job, but still...

She had the skills to be an actual vet, but do to the clinic being slow today, she was put at reception while the other two working employees were in the back. The same employees that would constantly mock her about her miniscule height of 4'0". Right now, however, one of the workers was out getting lunch, leaving Kate at the front desk and her supervisor in her office.

Kate sighed in boredom and was just about to play some solitaire on her computer, when suddenly, a man came bursting through the door, panting heavily as he carried a cardboard box with air holes. Strangely, the man was dressed in a tuxedo with a red corsage.

"Are you a vet?!" The man asked, almost out of breath. As Kate nodded, the man raced over to the counter. "Thank goodness! I was on my way to my friends wedding, when I saw this kitty cat on the side of the road!"

"Oh my!" Kate said as she eyed the box, hearing the sounds of something scratching and breathing inside. "Just come with me to the Room 1, and we'll - "

"I'm terribly sorry." The man interrupted with an apology. "I can't stay. I have to get to my best friend's wedding, and she'd kill me if I was anymore late then I already am! I left my number on the side of the box, so please call me when the kitty is okay!"

The man took another look at the clock on the wall and let out a yelp before dashing back out the door, the door being left a jar as Kate heard the sound of the man driving off.

Kate scratched her head in confusion before grabbing the box off the counter, preparing to take it to Room 1. Kate entered the room and sat the box on the examination table, getting her clipboard ready to take note of anything peculiar about this cat. Standing on a plastic chair to reach the table, Kate opened the box and looked inside.

She paled as she saw that it wasn't a cat that had brought in by that man...

Staring back at Kate with a fearful expression of its own was a fully grown skunk.

Kate only had enough time to blink as the creature turned around and sprayed the little woman from head to toe with a foul smelling liquid before leaping out of the box, off the table, and out the doors of both the examination room and the clinic.

It was only when the smell hit her and her eyes began to water did Kate realize what had just happened...

She had just been skunked!

Kate screamed as she blindly staggered down from the chair, pushed the chair to a nearby sink, and began to wash her eyes. She did this for about a minute before she finally gained her sight back. As she silently berated herself for being so stupid, she was taken by surprise as both her supervisor and her coworker entered the lobby, staring right into the examination room...
