Venus Overhears A More Interesting Job

Turning away from the board, Venus was ready to simply give up for the day when she overheard a pair of hunters speaking about a mission to save a village. They were both women, fairly young, though one younger than the other. The slightly older of the pair had dark green eyes that shimmered like emeralds when she smiled and red hair the color of fire, a few inches short of reaching her shoulders. She wore light leather armor, not particularly great for protection but good for mobility, with a quiver of arrows on her back. The woman brushed her hair back in an idle gesture, and the Shadow Hunter saw her ear, the tip slightly pointed. Venus guessed that the she was most likely a half-elf, which meant that her initial assumption of her age could have been off by a decade or more.

The younger of the pair already had her bright blonde hair tucked behind her completely human ear, nodding along to the conversation, ocean blue eyes blinking every so often but never glancing away from her friend. Unlike the half-elf, the blonde woman wore no armor, only robes. Though, given the holy symbol she wore around her neck, it wasn't a stretch for Venus to guess that she was a priestess of some sort. She didn't recognize the symbol, but then the Shadow Hunter had never taken a particularly strong interest in the various faiths anyway.

Rather than continue to silently observe the two and make them think that she was some sort of weirdo, Venus approached them nonchalantly. “Excuse me, I don't mean to interrupt but did I hear you talking about liberating a village?”

The pair both smiled politely, the blonde speaking first, “Oh yes, a few days ago we received word that the town of Moyer has been taken over by a terrible monster, a bugbear!”

Venus tilted her head slightly, one eyebrow arched incredulously, “One bugbear managed to take over an entire village by itself?”

The redheaded half-elf spoke up next, nodding along, “We can scarcely believe it ourselves. Sure, bugbears are dangerous and vicious beasts, but you'd think even a handful of farmers could take one down if they fought hard enough. That's why we're going to check it out. It might just be some sick joke or it might not.”

The Shadow Hunter smiled sincerely, “I hope it wouldn't be too presumptious to ask if I could come along?”

The pair looked between themselves for a moment, a bit surprised by the request. Though they didn't speak, it was clear that they were discussing the matter through pregnant looks and body language. Venus stood quietly, not wanting to bother them as they considered the matter between themselves.
