Valerie heads to the ice cream parlour

Valerie’s heart was pounding in worried fear. The way the woman and the random drivers had reacted to her told her something was very wrong and she was starting to doubt this reckless streak was such a good idea. “I just need to get off the street for a while…” she said quietly to herself as she headed towards the ice cream parlour. At least grateful that as she crossed the warmer sidewalk and stepped over some rougher stones, her bare feet remained completely, magically, untouched; like she was walking across carpet.
