The pickup games are paused for a few days. The rumor is that Morrigan has important mayor things to do. Another rumor is that she’s fed up with competing against you, but you honestly believe that this is about work. She’s put all this effort into the silly little soccer games and parties lately that you don’t know when she’d have time to run Demon City. You figure that she probably does have to catch up on work.

You are OK with that. You love soccer, but you don’t need to play every day.

On the other hand… what else are you supposed to do?

You find yourself doing more training with Tari. She calls it training, anyway. You call it watching TV, but to be fair, Demon TV is pretty stimulating. The idea is that you control your energies as you watch in a way that you keep your aura from bothering everyone working on the castle.

This show is about a bubbly, blue-skinned hostess demon who checks out various businesses around Demon City and reports about them. You watch as she goes to a soapy massage parlor and an older masseuse lady gives her an introductory demonstration. Distracted by the slippery bodies sliding together on the screen, you almost don’t notice that the older woman on this TV show is Tari.

“Is that you?” you ask, trying to act casual.

“I work there part-time,” Tari replies with a yawn.

You shut up and watch as things escalate. After Tari expertly brings the TV hostess off on the soapy, inflatable bed, the slender demon gives a glowing review of the establishment while the camera lingers on her trembling legs.

“They sent their part-time worker to be on TV?” you ask after a minute.

“They’re struggling,” Tari says.

“You could probably book at a classier place.”

“Where’s the fun in that?”

You’re getting pretty comfortable with Tari. You sip your drink and turn to look out the window. Several large trucks are driving to the construction site. The walls are getting higher and more elaborate. They’re doing a good job on this castle!

“I wonder what’s in all those?” you say.

“Looks like laboratory equipment,” Tari replies casually.

“How can you see that from here?” Oh, she’s using magic. What a showoff.

“Laboratory equipment,” you mutter, squinting out the window. Was there anything in the plans for the castle about a laboratory? What are you going to do with a laboratory? Is that the hot thing to have in Demon World? Morrigan doesn’t have a laboratory. She has pools and spas and dungeons and sexy orgy rooms.

Odd.
