VB Day 10 - What to do with Moira

In the morning, you go down for breakfast and find Moira already there, eating and reading the Demon newspaper. Demi is sleeping in because it's Saturday.

Cas and Pol bring your breakfast.

"Morning," Moira greets you absently.

Yeah, this is... so weird.

"So, you're like, smart... right?" you ask her.

"I suppose you might say that," she replies.

"So look, I have a tutor, but she's not that helpful. Can you tutor me?"

"I can try, but I know little of all this. It's why I've been trying to study these demons."

"Well I have all the textbooks. This house has a library. Can you try?"

"I'd be delighted," Moira says.

Sweet. You explain all the problems you've been having at school. Moira takes your textbooks and goes to the library.

Demi wakes up and comes down to breakfast as you're finishing.

"Is the spell holding?" she asks.

You shrug. "Seems like it."

"Oh my God. You are so powerful. Not all humans are like this," she says.

Hmm. You wonder why that is.

Nancy calls you. Surprised, you answer. "Hello?"

"Everything work out last night?" she asks.

"Uh, I guess."

"OK, cool." She hangs up on you.

Ugh. Nancy is a bad tutor. You relax with Demi, and Tari comes over to sunbathe. You and Demi join her, putting on swimsuits and lounging around the pool while Cas and Pol bring you drinks.

You can see through the window: Moira is deep in those books, looking intense. You tell Cas and Pol to get her tea or coffee or whatever she wants. You aren't really sure how you're supposed to treat her, so she'll just be like a houseguest... you guess.

It's really nice out. You look at your pregnant wife with her perfect red skin, and round belly in her purple bikini. And her mother, bursting out of her skimpy white bikini. Maybe Moira would like to be out here.

You tell Cas to go and tell her that she can join you if she wants. Cas goes, but quickly comes back and says that Moira doesn't want to. Well, OK...

Demi falls asleep, and Tari is listening to a Demon audiobook. You finally get up, pick up your towel, and go into the library. It's nice and cool, and Moira's in there, drinking hot tea. She's sitting at the big table in the middle of the room, and you join her. She puts her book down and looks at the notepad beside her, where she's scribbled quite a bit.

"I'm catching up," she says briskly. "I understand why you're having difficulty. And why your energies are in such high demand. The power of your energies is disruptive to nearby demons. That's causing your problems at the school. But there is a sealing spell to lock that away so people can concentrate."

"I know about that. I looked into it. But it's dangerous. It contains the energy so it builds up," you say.

"Yes. What is your goal, Riley?"

You consider it. "Um... I guess I want to just go to school normally."

"How? You aren't normal. Not here. You and I are only two of seven humans in all of Demon City. You can never be normal," Moira says. She's so cold and calm about everything...

"Then I want to graduate. I'm just not even sure it's possible..." you say sadly. "It's really hard, and I can't even like start to do it right."

"Not possible? You have virtually unlimited power in a place with considerable magic that is readily accessible," she says, looking a bit contemptuous of you. "Literal magic. Of course it's possible."

Wow... you never thought about it that way, but it makes sense. Magic is all about doing stuff that you shouldn't be able to do. Maybe you could learn some spells or something, but that would mean looking at all those books and stuff... you are a soccer player.

"Will you help?" you ask her. Moira's a nerd. She's into books and stuff. Right?

"I have to, don't I?" she asks, looking annoyed.

She does have to... she works for you.

"Make me a plan to fix it so I can graduate," you order her.
