Chapter 3 by Yabusa Yabusa

Which robotic design interests you for phase binding?

V42X Silverback heavy loader

After the success of the Angel frame and the Meteor power armor in Yabusa's first wave of mechanical designs to bind with another person, one engineer came up with an interesting idea to combine the benefits of the two. Instead of the motorcycle 'wings' that the Angel frame used, the connectors extending from the back of the user of a phase-binding frame could be anything, really. And so, they used an extremely oversized version of the Meteor arms, affixed them to the back of the frame in a position that would overlap with the shoulders of the wearer, and then used some power armor for leg and spinal braces to create the Silverback loader unit. Most of it is internal, but the spinal brace was external, and its silver chrome shine helped provide the machine's name in the end.

Depending on the user, the arms for the Silverback frame could extend all the way to the ground, almost like a second pair of legs rather than a second pair of arms. The hands were massive, able to grip a car engine with a single hand to lift. The ease at which a Silverback can lift heavy objects is incredible, able to lift the rest of the car as well if a user chose to.

Control over the Silverback arms depended on the mode. While a phasebound Silverback user can control the arms independent of their original pair, if they want really fine-tuned control, they are able to slip their own arms inside the larger ones and gain incredible finesse over their movements. Because of some powerful tactile sensors, the powerful arms have enough control to pick up an egg without damaging it. While power is the obvious feature of the Silverback frame, the speed is one of the unsung features, as users can rapidly pick delicate objects as easily as picking up heavy girders on a construction site.

Of all the Yabusa designs, the Silverback is the most cost effective unit to produce, and so Silverback heavy loader modules are some of the most commonly phasebound devices people use. It's fairly easy to align for phase binding, so it's often possible to bind with a Silverback unit for just the duration of a workday, but for those who can't keep binding and unbinding each day, the oversized arms are detachable, for those who don't want to carry the machinery with them everywhere. Some like the intimidation factor, though, so some Silverback users are constantly using their machinery almost as if they were born with them.

As with many of Yabusa's designs, these machines have a variety of use in many fields and professions. Demolition and construction are popular uses, but the strength is not the only benefit. Stability is another key use, and being able to brace or climb over objects means a Silverback user is surprisingly mobile.

As a potential Silverback user, what do you intend to do with those massive mechanical arms?

What do you do with the Silverback frame?
