Using status effects as your advantage (Totem Gumshoos)

You start to kinda panic since your Pokemon do not have an advantage against this boss, but then you remember something at the Trainer's school about status effects, so you remember to try to get those to your advantage.

(I heard that Poison can help a little bit, but this Totem Gumshoos came prepared with a Berry to rid of that Poison, but then again, it's only once so that doesn't mean you can't do it again. Paralysis can really help with Speed issues, and can even give you a free turn. Burning, if you have Litten, can weaken its Attack and cause damage to it over time. I don't know how effective sleeping and frozen can be to this guy, but it can kinda help since it gives you free turns, but not for long.)

Anyways, it took a lot of sacrifices to get status conditions on them and to defeat both Gumshoos and the Yungoos, but they were beaten in the end. (You defeated Totem Gumshoos!) Gumshoos disappears in pain, letting you take the Z-Crystal freely. (You have obtained a Normalium Z-Crystal! Trial complete!)

"Incredible!" Illima exclaims as he walks to you, "I'm amazed at your victory since I trained that Totem Pokemon to such a powerful state! Congratulations, you have cleared the trial of Illima! Oh and about that Normalium crystal, if you give it to a Pokemon that knows a Normal-type, and strike some kind of awesome pose, you unleash the Z-power of that Normal-type move."

"Anyways, before I let you go," says Illima, "let this be your first lesson in Trials. You will always encounter a strong Pokemon, like my Gumshoos. And during your wild Pokemon battles, some of them may now call on help to attempt to outnumber you, like what the Gumshoos tried to do. Now that you're finished, you are free to catch whatever Pokemon you find in Verdant Cavern. In fact, have some Great Balls!" (You obtained 10 Great Balls!). He then heals your Pokemon as well. "Anyways, when you're ready, come see me at Route 3, I wanna show you something cool."
