Chapter 17 by MidbossMan MidbossMan

How will you stop the Serpentine Sportsman?

Use the remote voice modulator to turn his drug against him! (Remote Voice Modulator -1)

You had what you needed to solve this... a surprisingly elegant solution had presented itself to you. This one wouldn't risk throwing any of your agents on stage in the middle of this, either. Vaarvel watched with interest as you pulled the remote voice modulator from your pocket and began to fiddle with its dials. You spoke a key phrase into the receiver, picked a destination for projection, then pushed the button. This particular gadget was so understated, it hardly seemed like it justified the CEDIT budget that had been spent on it... but in that moment, it proved its worth, flawlessly replicating the voice of Sportsman's voice from the on-stage area.

"Kill- me!"

The words didn't even sound spliced up. In the next moment, before the guy had a chance to put it together or contradict what was supposedly his own order, he was lit up by all manner of hidden weaponry that the international terrorists that form Adder's clientele had brought with them. You saw the blonde Adder agent's uncomprehending face tilt backwards as his poise gave way to some concussive blast, before an array of bullets and explosions began to rock the stage. The scariest part... for a moment, even you'd felt the urge to grab the closest blunt object, rush the stage, and try to bludgeon him to death. Thankfully, the ability to confirm his death at a range had instantly quashed that.

"Oh my, Mister Speck...! When I tried to stress to you the power of words, I didn't think you'd take it that way." Vaarvel looked thoroughly amused with your solution, somehow seeming to be in a chipper mood despite the situation. Still, she held one hand strongly to your shoulder; her expression corrected itself to a tense smile. "You've got it in you, don't you? The Bound Blood... We have to evacuate immediately. This place is becoming a war-zone and if any other Adders with the right genetic coding are here, they could, presumably, take hold of you."

You followed Vaarvel eagerly as she led the way to the extraction point. As you ran, you realized you'd ignored that Tschau had been poised to take the guy out herself. When you contacted her over the radio, she sounded sour, but yielded to the wisdom of your decision.

"Seeing them light up the stage like that... Don't think it would have been a good idea for me to make the attack anyways. You made the right choice... But I call dibs on meting out justice on the next Adder we run into..."

You'd be happy if you never ran into another Adder agent again... For that matter, you resolved to have the remote voice modulator either wiped or destroyed shortly after your escape. It had served you well this time, but with a recording of that dead man's voice on it that could theoretically mind-control you at any time, it was too dangerous to leave intact.

What comes next?
