Upstairs

The carpeted halls of Virtue News were mostly empty at that time of day. Most employees had left on their lunch breaks, those remaining took their afternoon meals in the privacy of their own offices. Hannah wandered the building headed to nowhere in particular when a half open door at the end of a hall caught her attention. There was no nameplate on the door and inside there was only an empty shelf and desk. She had arrived at the empty office; the reward for the next big exclusive. Her hand slid along the desk as she paced around the room. It wasn't a huge space by any means, but it was comfortable. Cozy, even. The window gave a view of a shorter building across the road and the city sprawl stretching out past it.

She was suddenly reminded of the view from her apartment. Then of her morning activities. The only people who could see into the empty office from outside would need to be either on the roof of the opposite building or looking through a telescope somewhere in the city beyond. Her imagination ran wild with possibilities. It wouldn't just be flashing from her bedroom or balcony to a sleeping city; she would be at work and it would be during the day. Her heart began to race.

She turned to the door and saw the empty hallway running from the office down the length of the building. It presented more possibilities. She sat down behind the desk and considered doing a trial run.
