Chapter 14
by theia
Where do your wanderings take you?
Up and out
Eventually you find a sign marked, “Exit.” The door opens onto one side of the lab, and you and Christina escape into the jungle. It's now late at night, but the moon provides enough light for you to slowly find your way back to the main trail. There doesn't seem to be any sign that Michael and your father are searching for you, so you hope that they haven't realized you escaped, or at least that you made it out of the lab.
You risk returning to the cabin. Luckily your father isn't there--he must still be up at the lab. You ditch the coveralls for more comfortable clothing, and you help yourselves to a quick but necessary meal.
"We can't stay here," Christina says between mouthfuls. "Too dangerous."
"I've been thinking about that. The ferry shouldn't return for another two weeks. But I think that I saw another, older boat beached next to the dock--maybe we could steal that and make it back to the island."
So you finish your food and pack a small bag with some snacks and water. The dock where you first landed isn't far away, only five minutes or so around the edge of the beach, but you don't know what you'll find there. If there's no boat, then you're screwed.
Much to your surprise, when the dock comes into view around the bend, you can see flashlights cutting through the darkness. Two beams sweep across the dock: one standing level, the other bobbing up and down as if coming from a boat alongside. Intrigued, you and Christina sneak as close as you can without being noticed.
Two large Pacific Islanders appear to be loading some kind of cargo into their dinghy. In the light of the moon and their flashlights you think you recognize one of them as the man who piloted the ferry that dropped you off on this mistake of an island. What are they doing here?
They speak, not particularly taking care to keep quiet, but you can't understand their language. They seem to be arguing about how much or which of the boxes to bring onto their small craft. All you know is that it's a boat, and it could get you away from here.
What do you do?

A Island Vacation
Spoiled little rich girl gets more than she bargains for
Your father drags you away during summer vacation from your friends and civilization to a remote Pacific island. He expects you to cool your heels on the beach for two weeks while he checks up on the lab of some scientist in his company. Fortunately, he lets you bring along your best friend, and you do have some cute little bikinis that were going to waste back home. Still, you're not happy about "roughing it" on this island, and you're not afraid to complain to whoever will listen. It's so boring and pointless! But strange things are happening on the island, and if you're not careful, you might find yourself wrapped up in more adventure than you've ever wanted.
