Under his bed

His breath caught in his throat as his body prepared to break down emotionally. In that small moment he heard a sound from in his room, around the bed. Quickly, he dropped to his belly and peaked underneath.

There she lay, on her belly. Whimpering in what could only be pain as the bandages around her lifted, and the carpet ground into her injured skin. He stretched a hand out, gently touching his fingertips to her arm. She flashed bright orange for a moment, her head quickly whipping to look at him. Finally, he let out his breath and allowed his body to relax. The spots across her body faded into a blue color, and he felt her exhale when she pressed her face into the floor.

She tried to crawl forward, whimpering again as the carpet and her blistered skin met. He stood and squatted down, gripping the edge of the bed frame and lifting it. He could only manage around 8 inches off of the ground, but that served enough for her to prop her torso off of the ground and crawl forward before standing.

She flickered blue, slowly sounding out, "Aht'sz...ou-kyay."

He nodded and reclined against his bed, "It's okay."

She mimicked his position, slowly fading brown into her spots. That was unexpected...

After a few minutes of calming down, she gingerly touched her upper chest where most of the bandages had ridden up. "Aaoow."

He took another deep breath. "Right. Ow...let's get that fixed."
