Math Explained

Here’s the run through of the math of the first turn for those who care about such things.

I started with the level 1 challenge, only Dawn was sent. There was a 12.5% chance she would be caught (10% base, + her lust of 5% * 0.5). The very first roll was a 3. Because this effect had the light mod, a second roll was taken, it was a 31. The 31 gets thrown out (highest number discarded with light, the 3 means she is caught).

Next up was Cordelia, accompanied by Xander with Faith as an intentional distraction. The chance of getting caught here was 25% (20% base, 5% lust). The first roll was a 24. Because there was a distraction, two more rolls were taken - a 58 and a 75. The two lowest rolls are thrown out, leaving us with a 75. Cordelia is saved by Faith’s distraction.

Finally was our group of three. The chance to get caught is 42% (35% base, plus 5% lust * 1.5) for each girl. Willow gets a 46, Amy a 27, and Buffy a 43. Willow and Buffy are just free. Because this is a dark event, one more roll is made - a 36. This replaces Amy’s 27, but still not enough for her to escape the magic.

Because Amy is caught, both Willow and Buffy have to roll again. Willow gets a 56, Buffy a 64. They stay free.

For the outcomes.

Dawn, Faith, and Amy lose sanity. Each was at the base of 4 sanity loss*. Dawn’s is decreased by 50% because of the light, while Amy’s is increased by 50% because of the dark, and Faith’s is increased by 50% because she was the distraction. Dawn and Amy go up one tier on vulnerability because of having been caught.

*one element I know is a bit weird is that Amy and Dawn have the same base sanity loss despite having really different scenes. The sanity meter is more about how frequently the girl has been affected by magic. The intensity of scenes might have different effects on girl’s personalities, but that’s a story element, not part of the game.

Each girl had 5 lust. Amy’s is removed completely (dark), Faith’s is reduced by 66% (normal), and Dawn’s by 33% (light).

Buffy and Willow gain 8 lust (level of the event (3) * 2, + each other girl present (2)). Coralida gains 7 (level of the event (2) * 2, + Xander’s presence).

Two girls were present for a level 3 challenge: that gains 9 points for magic. One girl was present for a level 2 challenge, that’s 3 points for intel, but Xander’s presence increases this by 50% to 5. Dawn was caught, so no safety was improved.
