Chapter 4

How should I go about dealing with Miss Michelle Rotsenburg?
Try to scare Michelle away
The Michelle situation was certainly a bit sticky. If people knew what she was investigating at the time she went missing, then it would raise suspicion towards us. On the other hand, if we just ignored her, there was the possibility that she would uncover more than we were revealing to let out. The best option would clearly be to scare her away. It probably wouldn't be easy, but anyone can be scared away if you know what they dread the most.
By default, one should threaten a person's life, and only go deeper if that fails. So, I sent one of my underlies to give Michelle a short message, one straight out of Hollywood. 'Drop the story, or your life is over.' There was nothing left to do but wait.
Two weeks later, my secretary came into the room and told me that one Michelle Rotsenburg was on the phone hoping to talk to me. It was clear that the bitch didn't quite get the message, so I picked up the phone.
"Hello, Miss Smith? I'm a reporter from a local newspaper, and I was interested in interviewing you about your recent business success."
What was this girl trying to pull? Not only was she masking her true intent, but she was pretending as if the threat had never happened. She certainly was tenacious, but I wasn't going to fall into whatever trap she was planning. It would be much nicer to have a conversation on my own terms. So, I politely rejected her offer.
"I'm sorry, Miss Rotsenburg, but we try to keep our business strategies private. If you would like to receive a promotional packet, we would be more than happy to send you one."
"Are you sure you don't want an interview? It could open the way for many more investors." I was impressed by her resolve.
"Sorry, but I have work to do. Goodbye, Miss Rotsenburg." I slowly hung up the receiver, and then went downstairs to talk to Marco and Sarah concerning our options with how to take care of that nosy reporter, once and for all.
How should we handle the reporter?
