Truth

I cleared my throat. There was no way. Liam deserved better than a lie. Besides, if I started lying about something like this, sooner or later I’d be lying all the time. No, it was better to keep the slate clean.

No one seemed to be paying us any attention—not that anyone would have any idea what we were talking about. We’d separated from the girls long ago. “If I am?”

Liam shrugged. “You know I wouldn’t hold that against you.”

A grin spread across my face. Definitely made the right choice. “Well, I am.”

He nodded, not looking surprised in the slightest. “I figured.”

That was a bit surprising. “Really?”

“Yeah. You always were a bit odd. In a somewhat good way.” His smile told me he was only kidding.

“Spoken like someone who likes throwing rocks in a glass house.”

“Now, just because I won the genetic lottery doesn’t put me in the same loonie bin as you.”

Chuckling as we went, we headed to our next class. The stress in the cafeteria already fading away.
