Chapter 11
by DragonStar1
What's next for Janno?
Traveling to Green Meadows
When he got back to the Wild Gryffin Inn, Janno had a quick lunch before going to track down the merchant who wanted a family heirloom moved to the farming town of Green Meadows.
Janno decided on that choice for a couple of reasons. One, he didn't really think much about the Mayor's tale. Why wasn't it more known among the townsfolk? Besides, even if it was true, Janno didn't think an underground adventure would be a good starting point for his small group.
That automatically left three possibilities: stay in town and continue waiting, go to Green Meadows or check out the abductions near the farm. Janno was tired of waiting and was ready to do something of note now. With some funds, he could purchase some riding horses to check out the other two options.
His second reason was because of the concern for safety of his new group. The journey and safe keeping of an item sounded safer than dealing with abductions. Janno wasn't sure if his unit could tackle an assignment like that. Plus, there were no real details listed about the farming community problems, in fact it was real vague. Janno didn't like the sound of that.
The third reason was because Janno figured he may gotten all he could out of Woodhaven in terms of adventurers. Ariel and Bella were nice, but they needed more help. Green Meadows was a farming town, but it presented another community to search for that help. Plus, the town was different from Woodhaven in that it was out of the forest and was on the road toward larger towns and even cities that would yield some help.
The fourth reason was the most obvious. There was no specific mention of reward in the abductions. The heirloom escort journey, however, had a reward worth 100 gp plus 20 gp/per adventurer. Janno figured this was the safest bet and outcome was laid out instead of being murky.
So he quickly found the horse merchant Marimane at the stables. Marimane dealt in the horse raising and trading business. Janno found him to be an average-looking person had dark brown hair and a somewhat slim build of someone who lived much of his life in the saddle.
Janno introduced himself and explained he saw the posting. Marimane smiled at this and quickly got to the point. He wanted a family heirloom transported to relatives in Green Meadows, a nephew and a niece living with his sister and her husband in fact. The heirloom he would not reveal, but he made it a point to tell Janno that his relatives were expecting the piece within within three days. Since it was two days to Green Meadows, that didn't leave much time.
When Janno asked why the merchant was willing to entrust the fighter and his band with this heirloom, Marimane smiled and said "Why, you are Janno, the hero who survived the ogre gang. News travels fast among us in the merchant guild. I was going to hire guards and feared I would have to make the journey myself to see it there. However, with the horsetrader's market coming up in Trenleaf, I must go in the other direction. I believe I can trust you to be honorable and uphold your end of the bargain."
Janno noted that Marimane wouldn't tell exactly what the heirloom, only to say it was a family relic. For all he knew, it wouldn't have much value and no doubt the merchant was hoping he would see it that way. They haggled about the terms of the mission with Marimane offering three riding horses as a starter's fee (the party did need those horses to travel) with food and riding equipment thrown in. Once they reached Green Meadows, the relatives had the funds to pay for their reward of 160 gp.
Janno couldn't see any reason not to take the mission and soon he and merchant shook hands. The fighter quickly went off to tell his companions.
How does the journey go?
