Transporter algorithm

Deborah took a look at the first assignment: the safety algorithm for the transporter system. Starfleet, of course, provided a universal algorithm for all the transporter systems of its ships, to insure the safety of its personnel. However, from time to time, an update for the software was provided, and it fell to the computer section of each ship to install the new 'patch.' Deborah looked over the code she had received, noticed no deficiencies, and proceeded to install the patch into the programming subsystem that ran transporters. Final installation would commence as soon as Lt. Metzger reviewed her work, which he did within a half hour.

The whole process took less than three hours and when Lt. Metzger came to check up on her, he gave her a shy smile. "Pretty dry stuff I'm afraid, Ensign. Don't worry, though. You'll have more of your fair share of excitement once the Potemkin is out on patrol. By the way, before we leave dock, I need you to transport over to the USS Shelby. She just arrived today. There are a few circuits we need for inventory, and she has the the only spares available for ten light years. I have to send you on grut work, but with the Potemkin getting ready depart in the next 24 hours, I really can't spare anybody."

"No problem, Lt. Metzger." Deborah felt comfortable enough to risk a little joke. "I guess I need to test out that new transporter computer patch anyway."

Lt. Metzger gave her a grin before sending her on her way.
