Chapter 2 by tyranus tyranus

Who Gets the App?

Tom Briggs, 19 Year old freshman in college.

Finally, I'm back from another long day of classes. When I signed up for them, I was gung-ho to be taking them into the evenings, rather than early mornings, but getting done after 7PM was something that I hadn't realized would make the days feel this awful in winter. That, and I haven't even picked my major yet, and am just taking general courses to fill my schedule makes me feel more and more like I'm just drifting through life.

"Stop farming and fucking FIGHT!" I hear my roommate, Maxine yell from her room in our apartment.

Maxine and I have been friends for a long, long time. She and I grew up next to each other, and have been friends since before we went to school. My parents always said in high school that I rubbed off on her the wrong way, since she grew up to become the epitome of a 90's gamer nerd. She's taking computer science at college, stays up late playing video games, has a few too many pounds on her, and subsists off of chicken tendies. That said, we're still super close, obviously, otherwise I probably wouldn't have gotten an apartment with her. Plus, my parents basically insisted on it.

I'm fairly convinced they see it as my duty to "take responsibility" for soiling a perfectly good maiden, and turning her into what she is, but she's not really my type. What is my type? Firstly, someone who is about 100 pounds lighter to start. Probably with a less crude attitude too, and wears some more feminine clothes.

"Jesus, just PUSH, do SOMETHING!" I hear Max yell again. No point in greeting her. I just get to work making dinner. Looking through the kitchen, it looks like she hasn't eaten yet, so I cook enough for the both of us. Something I've gotten accustomed to at this point.

After a while, Max comes out as I finish cooking a fortified ramen, using some cheap cuts of pork, and some vegetables.

"Nice, dinner! Thanks Tom." Max says, grabbing a bowl and treating herself to the food before sitting in front of the TV and putting on Futurama.

I grab my bowl and sit down to eat as well, and just chill watching while I eat. After Max gets her seconds, I start doing dishes, and she drops her bowl off at the counter when she finishes eating, and before long I hear the resumed yells from her room.

I look around for a bit to find my phone before going to my room for the night. After a bit of looking, I find it on the living room table near where Max was sitting. I head back to my room and lay on my bed, and turn my phone on, but when I do, I notice a new app on my phone that I didn't put on there. At this point, I'm somewhat used to it though, since Max has a habit of installing new apps she's working on onto my phone, usually with some weird twist on them. In the end every one of them she's junked down the road, but she usually asks for my feedback on it down the road, so I decide I should open it and see what's up with it.

Congratulations! You have been selected for the ActionsTrader beta test! You can now start trading!

The first thing I notice is that her UI skills have gone up quite a bit since I last tested one of her apps. All the options are nicely laid out, without anything to weird on them. I'm starting to hesitate whether this is actually her app, so I tap the first option, 'Targets', and I get a picture of Maxine on it. Well, never mind, its almost certainly hers, and it looks like she didn't even bother to take her headset off for the photo.

There are a few options along the Top: New Trades, Current Trades, and Trades History.

Tapping on New Trades shows Current Activity: Playing Video Game League of Legends
Then underneath lists Suggested Trades: Snack on Junk Food, Attend Class, Do Homework, Drink Mountain Dew.

I guess she must have done some discord integration, either that, or she's just put Playing League of Legends in for now since I was going to view it tonight.

Under that, there is a search bar for finding other activities.

In the bottom right of the screen is a moving question mark. Tapping on it, I get a small pop up on the screen.

"ActionsTrader is a revolutionary new app that lets users trade an action for another. Simply select a target and chose an action to trade. Once a trade is successful, the target will perform the chosen new action whenever they would usually perform the original one. The target will always remain unaware of any change, having toward the new action the exact same mindset as toward the original one. Beware: This also means that the original action will now be perceived in the same way the new action was before the change."

Alright, well, this is a weird thing definitely up Max's alley.

I decide to try changing something, just to test out the app.

I select: Snack on Junk Food, and get a trade symbol between the option and a blank space. Tapping on it, I get a huge list with a search bar. There is an unreal amount of stuff listed here. I'm guessing she found some pre-built list of actions people do and just integrated it into the app. Tapping around, I decide something mundane, and search Snacking. When I tap snacking, the empty space fills with Snack on ... with a new blank. I tap the new blank, and get a whole new list of things. I decide to search through the list, knowing that its my job to find bugs in apps like this, and sure enough, there are things in here that definitely shouldn't be listed. Non-edible things to be precise, and poisons. I can find wood, bleach, rat poison, you name it, and just about any noun that could potentially fit in someone's mouth is in the list. I make a mental note to tell Max later that she needs to change that, and search for something to replace Junk Food.

I decide on Celery. If Max was a more sensitive girl, she'd probably care, but she'd just chuckle at that.

A cost shows up: 10 AB.

At the top of the app, I see I have 100 AB. Tapping the affirm button, I spend the 10 AB, and I now see the Snack on Junk Food <=> Snack on Celery trade listed under current trades, along with the question mark in the bottom right moving again.

Tapping it brings up another pop-up text box:

"Trading actions costs AB, action bucks. The more similar the trade, the lower the cost, and some actions have a higher cost to change at a base level. By default, you get 50 AB every day at midnight, but you may find more ways to unlock AB. Trades can also only be deleted after waiting 24 hours from implementation. Please be conscientious about your changes for this purpose."

Alright, well, I guess I should continue testing her app out. For instance, I should try over spending, or putting a bunch of changes in.

I decide to keep the theme up and select: _Drink Mountain Dew, _and trade it with Drink Water. For another mere 10 AB.

As I poke around, I notice the Current Activity change to: Getting Snack of Celery.

Funny, she must get a notification when I do stuff, and changed her current activity manually, I think as I hear her door open.

"Hey, did you eat the rest of my celery?" Max half-yells from the kitchen.

I chuckle to myself. She's clearly committed to whatever this app idea is, "Yeah, sorry, I did." I yell back.

"Damn it. Hands on your own snacks!" She yells back.

Despite this being a prank, I'm a little upset by her comment, after all, I cook for both of us most nights, and I'm paying for that, so what if I had wanted to eat her snacks.

I dig through the app, and decide to take my frustration out within it.

There seems to be both general and specific options for one action, for instance, if I click Snack as an action, for type, I can select any, and it stays in the general form, so I find Play Video Game, and select Any, then swap it with Clean -> Apartment. 40 AB.

_Play Video Games <=> Clean Apartment _Appears under active trade

Now we'll see which of us is more committed to the bit.

I set the phone down, and start working on some homework, but after a while, I hear the vacuum turn on, and keep going for a while.

Damn, she's really committed to this bit.

I pull the app out, and sure enough, it has Cleaning Apartment set as the current action.

As I start working on my homework, Max opens my door and starts cleaning my room as well. I keep my eyes on her as I do my homework, making sure she doesn't do anything weird or pull some prank on me, but I don't notice anything outside of normal cleaning.

After a bit, it starts to get close to when Max normally goes to bed, so she leaves my room, which now is quite a bit cleaner than it was, and I hear her go into her bedroom.

I pull out the app, and expect to see the current activity as something sleep related, but instead I see Current Activity: Masturbating to Hentai Porn.

Trying to get me to be grossed out is she? We've played this game before, so I guess I need to one up next.

I select Masturbating to Hentai Porn, and then swap it with Masturbating -> Thought of -> Person[Tom Briggs]. For a cost of 30 AB.

Masturbating to Hentai Porn <=> Masturbating to the Thought of Tom Briggs shows up under active trades.

That leaves me with 10 AB left. I decide to just idly try to overspend points, but get an Insufficient AB points message, so decide to leave it at that, and finish studying for the night. Before I go to bed, I check the app and see Maxine's Current Activity: Sleeping.

What's next?
