When Beth arrived at the office, around 8:50, David's Acura was already in the parking lot. Apart from that, there were only three other cars. Beth thought they belonged to a few interns. On a Saturday, they'd be down in the basement stacks doing document review. She parked, and{if Shame > 79

} tried to ignore the feeling of anticipation welling inside her. We're just here to work. She couldn't stop herself from giggling as she remembered the previous evening, though. {endif

She made her way up to David's office, thankful for the silence and desertion of the office on a Saturday morning. Sometimes lawyers or paralegals or clerks would be working, but today the building was very quiet. When she knocked on David's door, she had to suppress a flutter of excitement at hearing his voice. She stepped inside the office and shut the door behind her. David was behind his desk, dressed casually in khakis and a tight polo shirt. Beth remembered all too well running her hands up and down his surprisingly toned chest: he was quite fit for a "nerdy" guy. David gave an awkward smile as he looked up.
"G-good morning." Beth couldn't help but notice his eyes were puffy and had the look of someone who hadn't slept well.
"Good morning!" Beth set down her purse and sat in the chair in front of the desk. "Are...are you alright? You look like you didn't sleep much. Apologizing to Kim?"
"We had some...reconciliation... after you and I... parted ways. And then I got up at 4:30 to come here and finish up." He smiled. "I'm almost done, just need to collate the files."
"David!" Beth was a little indignant. "We were supposed to do it together." She cleared her throat: it was suddenly dry. "I mean...we were supposed to finish the work together."
"Well...we can...it's just going to take a lot less of your time than it would have otherwise." His victorious smile infuriated her and filled her with affection at his sacrifice. He has no right to be so...desirable. "Think of it as a thank you... for last night."
