Chapter 4
by Somerled
What shall I say?
To exist indefinitely in the mortal world
Daemons cannot enter the mortal world freely - we have to be called, summoned. That puts a limit on how long we can exist in the mortal world, which is disappointing because a daemon's power grows while in this realm. Naturally, it is the desire of all daemons to live in the mortal world for as long as possible, so that upon returning to the aether it can gain greater position.
I had been in the mortal world many times over the millennia, and for great lengths some times, so it was no surprise that I was powerful amongst my kind. But there's always the possibility of more power.
"I wish to live amongst mortals for as long as I like, able to enter and leave this world freely."
He nodded - perhaps he expected the response.
"Then I think we can help each other, you and I. For you see that I have the power to summon you and you have the power to do for me what I want done. Thus I propose a deal. You serve me and I will grant you your desire."
I had to hand it to him, he was audacious. Simply being in the mortal world is not enough, however. My akasha needs to be free. Presumably that was the deal: I would serve him and afterwards he would release my akasha without banishing me back to the aether. An interesting deal, to be sure.
Do I accept his offer?
