Chapter 7 by Darkblader Darkblader

What is Diana's plan?

Time to examine the strange anklet! Without looking directly at it...

"Before I start any research, I require to know as much as possible about the look of the anklet, if it has any symbols on it perhaps I would recognize it from my studies, and be able to find information more easily." Diana said, obviously not able to look at the anklet herself, not wanting to get affected like Hannah and Barbara did before.

"Well it's silver, and kinda fancy looking I guess?" Amanda described the anklet quickly

Diana simply sighed at the answer, as it obviously wasn't helpful at all. There could be hundreds of magical artifacts in form of silver "fancy" anklets, she needed something more characteristic than that.

"Does it have any writing on it?" Diana asked specifically, hoping for something more useful, still sitting at her desk, turned away from Amanda, not wanting to risk getting under effect of the anklet by accident. It would be even worse than the time she was stung by LoveLove Bee and fell for Akko...

"Let me check..." Amanda said, lifting her own foot with the anklet a bit and trying to take a closer look at the source of her trouble. The fancy silver shone in the sunlight coming from the windows, and the tomboy could notice some kind of writing... or symbols on it. She had no idea about what language was that, however.
"Well, there is something, but it's some damn gibberish!" Amanda said after a moment of looking with some frustration

"Can you try to copy it on paper somehow? Me looking directly at your anklet is obviously out of question." Diana said, her family motto of compassion wasn't allowing her to leave Amanda in need of help like that, as uncomfortable as she considered it due to nature of anklet's power.

"I guess, gimme some of that." Amanda said, and without waiting took a piece of paper and quill from the blonde girl's desk, before putting the paper on her anklet, and dragging the quill to trace the weird symbols. After about a minute she handed the paper to Diana, who curiously studied it for a moment.

"Hmmm... it looks like 16th century Magi alphabet, I should be able to find some books that will help me translate it." Diana said after a moment of carefully analyzing the writing on the paper

"Awesome! I guess it sometimes pays off to be a stick in the mud who does nothing but study!" Amanda said putting her hands behind her head, and relaxing a bit when hearing there was some hope to find out what the anklet was

"I will take that as a compliment..." Diana said with a sigh, hearing the tomboy's comment
"Anyway, you can leave now. I will investigate it on my own, and find you once I know everything I can about this strange anklet of yours." Diana said, getting up from her desk, and still avoiding to look at Amanda, while going towards one of her bookshelves and starting to look for a book

"Eh?! So I have to go around all day with this anklet there?!" Amanda said, she expected that Diana would be able to translate that text in a few minutes, and their business would be done!

"I'm afraid there's no other way. Magi alphabet is an occult variation of Hebrew used to write on magic items and talismans, it's not in use anymore and wasn't very popular so the literature related to it is scarce in Luna Nova." Diana explained, taking out one of the books and coming back to her desk

"Damn... I will be in a serious mess if it affects someone while one of the teachers sees! Though I guess I might just skip class today..." Amanda said

"Didn't professor Finnelan tell you that if she catches you skipping again you will be cleaning troll baths for a month?" Diana pointed out while opening the book she just taken and starting to look for something there

"Shit, you are right... it's not like I have much of a choice though!" Amanda said, she was no stranger to skipping classes and obviously got some notoriety for it in school already...

"Do what you want. I will come to your dorm room once I found out anything of notice, we can't allow that anklet of yours to threaten the stability of Luna Nova." Diana said, rather coldly as usual, but luckily didn't threaten to inform teachers either if Amanda decided to try skipping after all

"Damn, I'm never putting on random magical items without checking them again..." Amanda mumbled to herself and prepared to leave, once again casting Metamorphie Vestisse on herself, as to anyone who wasn't Hannah and Barbara she would definitely seem extremely suspicious going around school in her male disguise. The spell also made the shoes come back onto her feet, so at least they were a little bit protected again.

"You shouldn't be stealing random magical items in the first place..." Diana commented from her desk

"Yeah, sure, whatever. See ya later I guess..." Amanda said, obviously ignoring the suggestion as she walked towards the door, and left the Cavendish witch's room at last.

Just as she left however, she could notice a familiar figure quickly approaching towards her, it was Akko! The tomboy was slightly worried that the overly enthusiastic witch would once again throw herself at her feet in middle of the corridor, but it didn't seem to be the case, as she wasn't looking down towards the anklet at the moment. The brown haired Japanese girl simply walked to Amanda with slightly annoyed expression.

"Amanda! I was looking for you since morning! Just what did you do to me at night?!" Akko said in annoyed tone, and rather loudly at that, probably not realizing how that sounded. Sure enough few of the witches of the eastern dorm who heard that instantly started looking rather oddly towards the two of them...

"Dammit Akko! Couldn't ya put it in any weirder way?!" Amanda thought, while thinking what to say to Akko... for that matter she also had to decide whether to go to classes today, or to skip them to avoid having her anklet affect anyone by accident. Perhaps she could drag the Japanese girl with herself under excuse of another "adventure" and promise to explain about the anklet on the way? It could be fun and would make the day pass faster... also skipping class away from school would certainly be wiser than skipping inside of it... on the other hand risking having to clean troll baths for a month wasn't exactly an attractive idea. Perhaps she should just take Akko to the side, explain things quickly, and then go to class together?

What should Amanda do?
