Chapter 16 by brevdravis brevdravis

Time to talk to Titania

Time to be Dad, again...

Robin thought for a moment of settling into the couch and enjoying a game. It was fun, but he was a bit worried about his youngest, Titania. She'd been having a hard time in High School, especially considering her height. It wasn't every teen girl who had three inches on her father, and the fact that her sister was just average brought her height into sharp relief.

He walked calmly down the hallway, elevating himself onto his toes. Living on an upper floor meant you had to learn how to walk quietly, after all. His daughters still didn't get it, but most people were forgiving. Those who weren't often managed to get silence for about a week... until they forgot again and stomped around as was their wont. Titania's door was closed, with a large wooden "T" hung from the door, and her name spelled out, along with a sign that read "Titania's Room: ENTER AND DIE!" complete with several very nicely detailed skulls and crossbones, as well as the Ghostbusters' logo for some reason.

Lauren and Robin had both tried to talk to Titania about her reticence to social situations. It had been a struggle, but she was making progress. Much better than the frightened little girl he had gotten back from foster care 16 years ago. Back then she would barely talk, and had ran away from everyone at every opportunity. A long, hard road. But there was another memory that wasn't fun to talk about.

He knocked gently on the door. There was no answer but the shifting of cloth and the rapid clicking of a mouse.

"Hey Titania... Was wondering if we could talk," Robin asked, his eyes drifting back to where his other daughter sat, eyes intent on the monitor.

"One minute..." The response came quietly through the door.

Robin waited patiently, knowing better than to barge in on his daughter. He didn't want to really know what she was doing, even though he knew that he should pay better attention. He'd checked his girls' internet history, and there was a LOT of fanfic, but otherwise, nothing that raised any red flags. Course, the kind of fanfic had caused him to roll his eyes a bit, but they were his daughters after all. He recalled many a day in the public library as a young man with Romance novels, so he really couldn't judge.

The door opened slowly, and the room felt warm. There were some slight beads of sweat on Titania's face, but Robin knew better than to mention it. Instead his eyes went to the closed window.

"So uhm... it's really hot in here..." He moved to the window, and the thoughts of the previous night went through his head. Adjusting the blinds to ensure there was nothing that could be seen from the outside, he gently opened the window, and the cool rush of air immediately flew through the room.

"I... like it warm." Titania argued, her face neutral.

Robin didn't mention that the other reason he was opening the window is that there was a scent of female arousal in the room and he didn't want to address that fact while he was talking to his daughter.

"Well, I'm hot... Just a second, okay?" Robin waited until the sensation of heat left his face before once more closing the window. "Ok, so... what's wrong?"

"Nothing, I'm fine, Dad." Titania shrugged her shoulders. "So was that it?"

"I'm... I'm worried about you, sweetheart," Robin began. "I mean, it's your last year of high school, and I still don't really see you having any friends."

"They're all jerks." Titania answered. "I've got a class full of morons."

"I had a class full of morons too." Robin answered. "Everybody has a class full of morons."

"You just don't get it." Titania shrugged. "We done?"

"Yeah, yeah, we're done." Robin sighed, unwilling to push the issue. It had been like this since she turned sixteen. Two years later, and he thought the phase would have been done, but here she was, still acting like the world was out to destroy her for just being herself. It hurt, but if Titania wasn't going to talk to him, he wasn't going to push the issue. One thing he knew was that if a woman didn't want to talk, she didn't want to talk. Even to her dad.

Before bed.
