Thursday awkward encounter

It was a fairly average Thursday. Mark was feeling the effects of the **** from the night before, he struggled to get out of bed that morning.

The only reason he ended up doing so was because of the constant sound of a keyboard being bashed by Dale’s fingers. Playing one of his many online video games, Dale made it very difficult on Mark who was **** for some more sleep.

Eventually he made his way down to the local coffee store on campus to grab himself a morning coffee. As he got to the front of the line, he was surprised to see Cassidy behind the bar, serving people.

She looked fantastic in her tight barista outfit. Cassidy had her hair tied up inside a sexy floral bandana. Mark had no idea she had started working here.

“Cassidy the coffee maker?” he asked smiling as he approached the front of the counter.

She let out a slight smile, “Just an independent woman trying to make an honest living,” she joked with him.

“Well I hope you’ve had some good practice, I’ll have a latte with as much as sugar as you can put in. I really need it this morning,” he told her.

She smiled and skipped where he would usually pay. Straight to making the coffee, Cassidy let him know that it was on the house. Mark couldn’t be happier with a free coffee from a beautiful woman but he could clearly notice that Cassidy was a little distracted while making Mark’s coffee. She constantly looked to the side of the cafe, right at a certain table.

Mark turned his head to see where she was looking.

“Oh you’re kidding me…” he quietly muttered.

Sitting at one of the tables was Cassidy’s old roommate Jade and her ex-boyfriend Matt. Mark instantly felt bad for Cassidy who was still being constantly reminded about two failed relationships that was still haunting her.

“Can’t seem to go anywhere without them following me,” Cassidy whispered to Mark as she passed him his coffee, she had noticed him staring at them too.

Taking a sip, Mark liked how it tasted, Cassidy could still make a good coffee without putting her full attention into it.

“Another coincidence or are they just doing this to bother you more?” he asked her.

Cassidy shrugged, leaning on the front counter in front of Mark. “Wouldn’t surprise me if they do it just to make me angry,” she said, gritting her teeth.

Whether Cassidy would admit it or not, she had a lot of love for Matt still. Cheating on him with Mark was the biggest mistake she had made while on campus. She constantly wondered what if, what if none of this ever happened.

As Mark and Cassidy spoke, they were surprised to see Jade walk up to them, directing her attention to her old roommate. “My coffee’s not hot enough. You wouldn’t mind making me a new one, would you? I paid for hot coffee, that’s what I should be given.”

The look on Cassidy’s face was one of pure annoyance. The fact that she had to stay calm because of her new job was something that was hard for the brunette junior to do.

It didn’t make much sense to why Jade would have such a poor attitude towards Cassidy. It was Jade who took her boyfriend, not the other way round. This had to be one of two reasons, either Matt is telling her some horrible things about Cassidy or she is just flat out, a pretty crap friend.

Cassidy quietly re-made a new coffee, making it as hot as possible so she wouldn’t complain again and go as far as speaking to her manager.

“Here you go,” she said positively, putting on a fake smile.

Jade took it from her hand, almost snatching at it. She put it up to her nose to smell before lowering it again. “About time…” she muttered back, sticking her nose up at Cassidy.

Mark was just itching to say something, how could he just stand there as Cassidy was treated like dirt.
