Chapter 4

How should you respond?
This is just too creepy. I’m going to run like hell!
Raven’s file described her as dark, quiet and introverted. Whenever you had seen her fight out in the city she would always hang back and use her cryptic magic to attack from a distance. Cyborg had even warned you, in a somewhat joking way, to stay out of Raven’s way until she got used you. This just did not seem right.
Is she playing a prank on you? Is she mistaken and thinks you’re someone else? Is she under someone else’s control? Whatever her reasons are, it just seems safer to contemplate them somewhere else… ANYWHERE else.
As you pivot towards the door, you notice her grin begin to fade. When your pivot puts your back to her you can only assume the look of displeasure she must have on her face. Still, you’ve made your choice. You have to go.
As you run towards the sliding metal door you can hear Raven begin to mumble something and while the words are leaving her mouth time feels as though it’s not even moving.
“Azarth… metrion… zynthos….”
It’s right then that you become fully convinced that running away may not have been the best choice. Raven may have seemed creepy with a big smile and telling you all about her feelings but that’s drastically better then an angry Raven. After literally running away from her after she opened up to you like she did, a normal girl would be furious. You can’t even imagine how angry Raven must be.
All you can do is stare at the wall of black energy that now covers the door and wish it wasn’t there.
“I’m sorry.”
You had contemplated saying those words. You had only hesitated because you were unsure if apologizing would help you or simply make her angrier. But you weren’t the one who had just said it.
“Wh… what?” You stutter, taken completely aback that she seemed to be apologizing to you.
“I’m sorry. I guess I might have been too forward. It’s just that I’ve never said those words to anyone before so I wasn’t really sure how to tell you.” She said in a shaky voice. What she had just said was obviously as hard as anything she had ever said in her life.
“Oh…” Is all you manage to reply. She seems to be an expert at catching you off guard.
“I couldn’t ask for any advice from the guys and Starfire is… well… Starfire.”
This time you can’t even manage to respond with an ‘oh.’
The energy barrier fades as she breaks a very long moment of silence.
“I guess I can’t be mad at you for running away. Who would feel anything for the daughter of demon! Don’t worry though, I give you my word this won’t happen again and I won’t tell anyone either. I’m sorry if I made your first day here awkward. I’m positive you’ll make a great addition to the team. That is, if you even want to stay here after all this.”
