They are unsurprised

The two farmers look to each other before Jack lets out a quiet snort of laughter. That... That wasn't what you were expecting. You are confused and grow even more so when Joseph begins to laugh as well. Did they think that you were lying? Had you really panicked so badly that you told the truth to people who never suspected that you were the missing Lexus Halpas?

"Relax Evie." Jack says, the familiar nickname rolling off his tongue, "We've known who you were for a while now."

"Your disguise is good, but we spend most of the day with you." Joseph adds, "We figured it out pretty quick when the flyers went up."

Flyers? You hadn't seen any flyers... Wait. There had been that one night, after you had been left on the farm by yourself all day while the father and son duo had taken care of errands in town. You had fallen asleep on the couch after scrubbing the farmhouse top to bottom, waking up to the two men having a bonfire out back. Jack had led you back to bed while Joseph had been dumping papers into the flames...

"You burned them all to hide me?" you ask, the picture slowly coming together.

"Course we did!" Jack says, smiling, "Couldn't risk someone seeing and blabbin' to the wrong folk. Some of the town knows, but we ain't sayin' a word. There is no Lexus round here, just our Everett."

Joseph nods and you can feel the tears welling up in your eyes. They were risking so much for you. "You didn't have to do that." you say, "You don't have to keep it a secret. Just..."

"Hey, don't start talking like that." Joseph says, standing up from the couch, "You're one of us now and we'll do anything we can to keep you. Even if it comes down to leaving town with you."

You smile, letting the older man pull you into a hug. "You're the son I never knew I needed after I had Jack." he says, "Let us take care of it. Trust us to protect you."
