They Don't Know

Kim's paranoia soon fades to a comfortable nervousness when she arrives home with Ron to find her parents still unpacking in their room after their trip.

"Ron, I don't think they know. . ." she whispers a bit to loud, "Know what?" her mum's voice chimes in right over her shoulder.

"Nothing mum! Nothing! Geez you scared me" she says jumping into Ron's arms, "I don't buy that for a second young lady! What is going on?" she says as her face contorts into different expressions all at once; curiosity, anger, distress and confusion.

"Umm . . ." it's at this point when Kim makes a premature decision to tell her mum some of the truth oping it would quell her thirst for answers, "Ron and I. . .Ron and I are getting married!"

Now, despite them being the strict parents a teenage girl should have, Kim has always had a pretty liberal relationship with them because of the strong trust they had in her and the bond they share. Kim, up until she uttered the 'd' in the word married, had believed that this bond would be enough to overlook the logistics of marriage right after High School and perhaps respond with an "Aww" or an "Oh" if they were really rattled so what came next shocked both Kim and Ron.

"Absolutely not!" Kim's mum yells, loud enough to rouse her dad and the rest of the household who are just in time to watch the woman of the house devour the couple.

And devour them she did. An arduous 2 hour lecture was the side-effect of Kim's trust in her parents and while she weeps into Ron's shoulder, squeezing his hand tight trying to milk his embrace for what little comfort it had to offer, Ron is cool, calm and conspiring, "I will not let anyone stand between me and Kim! No one!"
