They're locked out

It was an agonising few minutes as Reed led Sue back up the stairs as they couldn't chance the elevator after what happened with Ben. Sue kept one hand on Reed's shoulder to let him know she was still there leaving her with only one arm to cover her breasts. Even though she was still invisible, Sue couldn't bring herself to move her arms away. She still felt as if all the people walking past them could see her. She sighed with relief as they turned one last corner and saw the door to her room, just a few more steps and she would be home free. At least she thought so.

"It's locked" Reed said after pulling on the handle.

"Well don't you have a key?" She whispered frantically.

"No, the rest of us didn't get keys to each others' rooms." While Sue tried to figure out the logic behind that, Reed tried the handle a few more times with no success. "What happened to yours?"

"It was in my pocket during the experiment when..." the realisation suddenly dawned on her as she whimpered out "...when Johnny burned my clothes".

"Well that's not good" Reed said pointing out the obvious.

"Oh really?" Sue replied sarcastically then saw how bad Reed felt about it and decided to apologise "sorry, just been a long day."

"It's ok, I get it". Despite how horrible the circumstances were, Sue was glad to have Reed with her and getting into an argument with him would accomplish nothing. "Wait, what about your powers?" He asked.

"What about them?" Sue asked somewhat concerned.

"Your forcefields, you could use them to open the door." Reed said excitedly.

"Um, well" Sue stumbled for an explanation, remembering her humiliation in the alleyway, she wasn't ready to relive it just yet. "Can't you do it? Just stretch your arm in there and unlock it" she said hopefully.

"I don't have that kind of control yet, all you have to do is knock it off its hinges."

"I can't just knock it down," Sue argued. "Someone could just walk in"

"Is that worse than staying out here?" Reed asked. Sue didn't really have an answer to that, he was right of course. It was the only way for her to get inside and back to her clothes, she just wasn't sure if it was worth the cost. "Sue, what's going on, why don't you want to use your shield powers?" He didn't miss much, Sue took a deep breath before explaining.

"I haven't figured out how to use my invisibility and my **** fields at the same time" her grimace when unseen by Reed as she continued, "to open the door, I have to risk being seen".

Reed took a few moments to process what she said and looked conflicted. He wanted to help Sue but some part of him seemed to have been hoping for something like this to happen. "I understand your ****," he said slowly. "But I really don't see another way in, I'll turn around and keep watch if you're really concerned but it's your decision."
