There was an accident in the lab one evening

A doctor's work was never done. Even when the doctor in question was the infamous "Plague." Tae knew that her experiments were far from over, really they would never be over. There would always be a new problem to solve, a new disease to tackle. But that's what being a doctor was all about, wasn't it?

Sure, it helped that she had her own personal guinea pig to test her experimental medicines on, and this arrangement would have been likely several kinds of unethical through any official channels, but that wasn't the important part. What was important was that her wonderful test subject yielded so much useful data with each experiment.

"Now let's see. For my next experiment I'm going to need... this!" Tae mused to herself as she searched her extensive shelves of chemicals and medicines. Her slender fingers grasped the cool glass vial from the top shelf and pulled back, just as she'd done countless times before. This time, however, the smooth glass slipped from between the doctor's fingers. In a moment of panic, Tae's professionalism faltered. Acting on base instinct the doctor wildly grabbed for the falling vial, only succeeding in accidentally knocking several other containers off the shelves. In the end rather than one smashed vial on the floor, a good half dozen glass containers had shattered, their contents spilling and mixing across the tile floor of the clinic, along with a healthy amount that had splashed up from the impact and onto Tae herself.

"...Shit." she whispered quietly.

If there was one thing anybody familiar with chemistry knew, it was that haphazardly mixing chemicals (like, say, combining them randomly in a violent crash) hardly had positive results.
