Chapter 29 by Vain Vain

It seems like Jack's going with her then, unless there's something else on his mind...?

There's something else to distract him

"Yeah, I'll be right with you..." Said Jack, as his daughter was about to go looking for snacks, but was a bit distracted by something going on at the bench below them. He'd almost managed to forget about Samantha for a while now, but seeing her now quite familiar figure doing some interviews with the players made him realize just how popular she was, and also caused him to wonder once again why the cute reporter had been stalking his family.

The thought of her making some story of his own misfortune sent another chill down his spine, thought he really couldn't see why anyone would take interest in his family affairs. Unless it was all about Shirley's lover of course, in which case he shouldn't need to worry too much about himself, except for the fact some of the proving pictures had been taken in his own garden.

While deep in thought he barely even heard Catherine saying that she was going with Kim, and only when he turned around did Jack realize he was now alone with Jennie, while the others had already left to get their snacks. Hopefully they'd bring some with them for him as well, even though he never said anything about it, but on the other hand he wasn't so sure he wanted any at all.

It proved difficult enough to focus on the match, with his mind busy on completely different matters, and he certainly wasn't hungry after eating at the restaurant just before the game. So he barely ate anything at all, when the girls eventually returned with a couple of bowls of popcorn, and time flew quickly while Jack had many things on his mind at once.

Throughout the game he could see both Sam and a cameraman moving along the bench, apparently picking up various comments from the players, and it was easy to see how her presence had a somewhat soothing effect on them all, whether they were angry or excited about how their team was doing in the field. All this kind of explained how she could've been so calm when Jack confronted her the first time, even if it should be a mile's difference between standing in a crowd of people, or being yelled at by a stranger in an isolated garden.

She sure had some courage at least, as Jack had come to notice even before he saw her talking in front of the camera, and he found that he was getting impressed by the young woman's success. It also made him wonder if she was actually older than her small frame and cute visage would suggest, but as far as he could tell she couldn't possibly be any more than a few years older than his own daughters, if not exactly the same age as Kate.

This in turn made him just a bit jealous, despite the fact that he'd never had any ambitions to be famous himself, but comparing this woman to his own daughters made it almost painfully obvious that something had gone seriously wrong about their upbringing. It wasn't like he'd put all the blame on himself though, but it sure made him wonder if they'd been any different if he'd been there to push them on, instead of holding them back when they tried to express their own talents.

For all those reasons he still had a lot to think of when driving his family back home some time later that evening, and he barely remembered the match at all when they finally arrived at the front of their house. At least the girls had a good time while they were out, as it wasn't just Kim who'd been enjoying their stay at the stadium, even if her sisters had mostly been there just to keep them company.

They were all a bit tired after a busy day however, and even Kimberly admitted that she was going to bed as soon as they'd arrived back home. All the cleaning and basking in the sun during the day had taken it's toll on them, and it was already late when they were finally ready for bed...

Can Jack get some sleep though, and what about the next morning...?
