Now Clarice was outside, dressed only in her underwear, locked out. Once the backdoor closed, it could only be opened with a key; this had happened to her and her roommates before, just in a state of more dress. And Champion was still licking her face.
As she let her arm flop down, she felt a stick. He must have brought it home at a recent walk. Clarice picked it up and wiggled it around.
"Here Champion, catch this!" She threw the stick into the backyard. After a few more paws on her, she was finally free.
As Clarice got up, she saw that the window to her room was open. Ah, yes, it smelled rather stale when she got home. The only problem was, the window is upstairs.
Looking around, Clarice saw a few options to climb up. First she saw the drainpipe next to her window. Or she could try clamping her fingers into the artistically uneven facade. She also remembered, she could get a garden chair from the other end of the backyard, but right now she has the house wall on one side and privacy fences to the left and right, and out there she would be completely without cover.
