The swamp

As Sue worked her way cautiously through the swamp a section of what had appeared to be solid ground suddenly crumbled, plunging her waist-deep in warm, thick mud. She tried to kick herself free, only to sink further, with the mud rising just under her breasts. “Quicksand. I just have to stay calm,” she thought, and began looking around for a vine or branch to use to pull herself free, but none are nearby, and to her alarm she realized she is still sinking. She stretched out her arms, clawing at mud to try and pull herself to shore, but it only relentlessly rises, pressing tight and thick and warm against her body, forcing her to tilt her head back as it reaches her chin…
