The portal machine

It all started when a scientist completed his lastest invention: A portal generator. With this device, it can generate a portal out of any surface. The scientist try it in a nearby wall. However, when he turn it on it start going haywire and exploded. However, a ray come out of the explosion and aimed at the door, which was getting opened by someone. Only for said person to hit by the ray. Once everything got cleared out, the scientist notice the mess his invention has made. He also notice that the room's door has been open and someone is laying down **** due to the blow.
